Hello Supper Clubs
London has always been considered to be at the forefront of all things fashionable and desirable, however it seems it may have missed the boat on this one - and is only now catching up and turning our attention to more vintage ideas of a night out- cue supper clubs.
Supper clubs seem to have been a big hit everywhere other than London for some time now. Edinburgh has its themed bar/restaurant the Voodoo Rooms which takes inspiration from the classic New York Rainbow Rooms. The retro chic seaside town of Brighton has its own themed supper club in the shape of The Hanbury, which has been serving supper in this way since 2006.
London is now catching up, and it is doing it in style! The Brickhouse situated in the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane is always fully booked with people wanting entertainment and dinner all in the one place. However, if you fancy something a little more reminiscent of the original 1940’s supper clubs then head over to The Pigalle Club in Piccadilly. This Vince Power owned establishment oozes old school glamour and hosts entertainment from singing legends like Eartha Kit.
I think our reviewer Amanda H really sums up the appeal of this type of entertainment. In big cities like London a night out can consist of more time spent queuing than actual enjoyment - especially when moving from venue to venue. Let’s be honest, we all crave a big of old school glamour, and what better place to indulge than in the comfort of a club designed to cater to all your entertainment needs?
It will be really interesting to see if this type of dinning/entertainment really takes off, I really hope it does as the options for nights out is beginning to feel a little limited, but also feel if there become too many they might lose their underground/speakeasy feel. If anyone knows of a great supper club that I haven’t mention then drop this comment and let us all know about it.
