Good for a night out

The George is a good-sized ‘going out’ pub in Harpenden – it’s one of only a few with a late licence and live DJ, so turns into a bight of a dance-venue later in the evening.
There’s a good space with Pool Tables at the back of the pub. Only downside is the food/service varies greatly. I’ve had a couple of decent meals there, but more recently have been disappointed.

Good for sports

Really like this place. Situated opposite the green and a couple of minutes walk from the station, The George is very easy to spot. Looks more grand on the oustide than it does on the inside, but don't let that put you off. There are plenty of booths and even has screens within each of them. Incredible for sport, I've watched season climaxes, cup finals and World Cups in there and the atmosphere is tip-top. As a chain pub the drinks are cheap, but delivered by wonderfully friendly staff that really do make you feel really welcome. Equipped with pool tables and a good jukebox too. Great for sitting outside watching the world go by. Is also open late on Fridays and Saturdays and gets very packed when the tunes are blaring.
Its worth travelling all the way from North London (on the Thameslink!) to Harpenden.
