Our bench mark

29 Nov 09, 16:29 4 Above expectations

Weve been eating here weekly for over 10 years and despite a couple of rare dips in standard this has become the indian we judge others by. The staff remember your name, are happy to make alterations to menu dishes and they've even redecorated this year, not my taste by definitely better. The food is excellent and we would have to spend double to achieve a better standard. The fact that we are always itching to come back here after a holiday says it all.

mediocre

We tried a take away from The Raj a month or so ago after our usual Indian in Orpington had changed hands. We were impressed that the restaurant was so busy and the food seemed nice so we went back for another takeaway this friday (sept 2009). This time we ordered different dishes and again the restaurant was very busy but we were sadly disappointed. The food is OK but one of our classic favourites 'the onion Bhaji' didn't seem to contain any onion!! We felt there was little meat and all more sauce in our curries..could be better but not terrible so 3 stars.

A little disappointing

07 Apr 09, 13:02 3 As expected

Had been previously about 3 weeks ago and really enjoyed the meal. The service was also quite good. Thought at the time it was 4 star, maybe bordering on 5 with a little effort.

Visited again last Saturday and was quite disappointed. The waiter brought beers (Cobra) although as non-alcohol drinkers we had asked for coke. These were replaced with coke after we attracted what appeared to be the Managers attention.

Food was good, but did not seem as good as previous visit. However, was then not pleased to find that the bill presented included the cost of the beers as well as the cokes.

Not sure if this was an oversight or typical, but have had similar erorrs too many times for them all to be coincidence.

Therefore, unfortunately, having hoped to (potentially) increas the rating from 4 stars to 5, the reality is that it actually gets a 3 based on my own personal experience.

In an attempt to be totally fair however, the restaurany was busy and everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Excellent

Although the restaurant decor is a little dated, the food is excellent. We have been there several times now and have never been disappointed. The staff are always extremely friendly and it is definitely very good value for money . Even the wine is sensibly priced. Chicken Tikka Massala is the best I have tasted. Always recommend to friends - a little gem!
