We all scream for ice cream

Go for the ice cream, stay for the pizza (hang on, no, reverse that - ice cream really doesn't work as a first course). If I'm in the Chalk Farm area I always make a bee-line for this place, because it makes me glad to be alive. Justly famed for its ice cream, Marine Ices is also a superior pizzeria that is well worth a visit. The proprietor is immensely friendly, the food is great - proper pizza with a wide variety of excellent toppings - and the ambience is lively (though, as has been mentioned, the family-friendly nature of the place does mean that you run the risk of sitting next to a children's party).

It's famous for the ice cream (there are always queues outside in summer) but the pizza/pasta is pretty special too. I love it because it's totally unpretentious and ice cream makes people happy so there's always a good vibe. Don't go with a hangover though as you're guaranteed to sit next to a kid's birthday party.

Amazing Italian ice cream

Marine Ices is famous in North London for it's ice cream. I'm not quite sure what they do to make it so tasty, but it's definitely the best I've had. There's a wide range of flavours, and lots of sorbets too. Splash out on one of the huge 4 litre tubs, I promise it won't last as long as you think! Marine Ices is also an Italian restaurant, which I believe is good.
