Not in Dublin, and not a Castle

Above expectations
As the previous review stated, its a genuine Camden, if not to say alternative music, institution. Anyone who's played the toilet circuit will have played here - and Madness had a residency here too back in the day. Nowadays, the pressure of having to put four bands on every single night of the week means that 99% of them will be unlistenable nonsense. Which is why on a weekday atleast, the regulars will be in the non-gig room, listening to the decent stuff on the jukebox and the bands will be playing to no-one but their parents. Fair enough, its not cheap, its not clean - but it certainly is rock'n'roll.

A Camden institution

As expected
When I've been here in the evening it's heaving - don't hope to get a seat as they are like gold dust. Never been to the back room but by all accounts the music is good. Proper dive bar, with plenty of posters to look at if you get bored of staring at the clientele. Nice during the day as you can take the time to drink your pint and peruse the extensive musical paraphenalia.

Didn't enjoy myself at all at this dive

Well below expectations
I've heard some good things about the Dublin Castle. People tell me that it's fun, enjoyable, and that there is good music in the back room. Personally, I've only ever been there once and I hated it. The front room (I confess I didn't want to spend money for the music at the back) is small, cramped, and packed to the rafters with all manner of odd types. Sweaty and excessively humid, I found the whole atmosphere to be rather unpleasant and annoying. The beer, flat lager with no real taste, was dire and overpriced, the music was good I admit, but I know others who would hate it, and overall I just think the Castle is a bit of a dive. Definately worth avoiding.
