Well below expectations
There are so many nice places to go around the West End…so why go to Yates. Well if you want a cheapy lunch and can’t be bothered to go too far then its ok. The food isnt great, but they do replace it when you complain (last time I went my food was not cooked…hmmm!). Its also a bit dark and gloomy!
If you want to go somewhere that is a magnet for stag parties, groups of men visiting the Big Smoke or tourists then this is the pub to go to!
Not for me though thanks!

I’m not really a fan of Yates, by day it’s ok although does tend to attract stag parties and groups of men visiting London. It’s also really dark in most of the pub, but ok if you sit at the front. The food isn’t great, but it’s cheap and when you do complain they are quick to replace your meal. Service is fairly slow, so if you are popping in at lunch make sure you ask how fast the kitchen is going. By night it is a bit of a tourist haven and there are a few odd bods in there…I don’t really like it as there are often men alone, which I find weird and a bit pervy. When it’s my choice I never suggest going here... there are so many good bars in the area there is just no point!

Beyond expectations
Call me prejudiced but given the reputation of Yatess I would never have chosen to come here myself, however, I dropped in the other day to join my colleagues for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. The food was good and reasonably priced, the service at the bar and table was attentive and courteous and the most surprising thing of all was the excellent pint of Fuller's London Pride I was served for possibly the lowest price in London - £2.30. It's nicely air-conditioned should you need a respite from one of those scorching hot summer days that we get in London...
This Yatess has recently been refurbished and is clearly set-up for night time drinking and dancing - glitter balls, dancing poles, numerous flat screens etc. but during the day they just show unobtrusive music videos. I'll leave commenting on the evening experience to another reviewer - I suspect it gets very busy with a lively young crowd from out of town - but for a spot lunch or a cheeky day-time pint I'd certainly recommend this particular Yatess - and I never thought I'd say that.
