Below all expectations

Really disappointed I’m all for independent stores and Stanfords is a shop I’ve often used before in the past but this time around the clueless staff ensured I won’t be going back.

A 20 minute wait to get served by someone who doesn’t know what an ISBN number is not what I expected, and whilst I hate to admit it WH Smiths online was a far less painful experience.

Excellent map shop

This is a very large map shop. It sells pretty much any map you could ever need; so it's probably not somewhere you'll go often, but is very handy to know about. They also sell a large range of travel guides.

Find yourself

Lost? In need of some direction? Stanfords, just off Covent Garden, is a mecca for all things cartographical. Not only is there a huge selection of travel writing from around the world, but you can also purchase maps of virtually anywhere. Be inspired by the literature and the setting , there's an enormous map of the world table where you can plan your exploits. It's also a great spot to meet people and swap tales of your exploits , or to pick up a travel journal to ensure that when you're back home you've got plenty of anecdotes to come in and recount. Unparalleled for all things travel in London , plus they even sell some outward bound clothing and equipment.
