best coffee in the world

02 Jun 08, 15:14 5 Beyond expectations

Absolutely the best coffee i've ever had. Originally i thought they might have been tipping some heroin in here, but it's just down to focussing on one thing - coffee. Yes, the pastries are nice, they come from patisserie Paul. These guys just do coffee, and what incredible coffee it is. They even fly off to visit their suppliers and see how the plantations are doing. An ever changing roast of the day, but the espresso based drinks are also fantastic. Buy some freshly roasted beans - ground how you want them, and you get to sample the delights of Monmouth at home, though clearly it doesn't match up to the in-store experience. Oh sweet baby jesus, I could do with a cup of this stuff right now....

I'm an addict - you got to love it

not only is the coffee by far the best I've tasted in a long long time, but they have a changing roast of the day and the staff is not only very kind and sort of unique in their style - they although know a lot of the products they are selling. I come every day in the morning to get me a coffee and a crossaint and wouldn't want to miss it. its such a refreshing alternative to the star s**cks and costas of this world.

Best coffee I've ever drank

02 Aug 07, 20:22 5 Beyond expectations

I've been buying beans from Monmouth for 3 or 4 years now. I love them.

I love their beans, I love their roast of the day, I love their truffles, I love their ethics, I love their tiny tiny seats and I love their staff - because they love coffee too.

Honestly, if you want good coffee, go to Monmouth.

This is the place to buy coffee!

30 Jun 07, 22:00 5 Beyond expectations

A great place to buy coffee beans from around the globe. Most of the stuff is ethically sourced and the staff are really knowledgable. Tasting notes are available to make sure you get the strength and flavour that you're after.

It's the place to get your coffee and due to the quick turnover of stock you'll always have a new bean to try next time you visit...

Coffee Mecca

This jewelbox, together with its two siblings in or near Borough Market, serves the second best coffee on the planet. I'm sorry, but the best is Blue Bottle Coffee in San Francisco. Still, Monmouth makes a pretty damn delicious brew. When you place an order -- even for filter coffee -- the beans are ground to spec and a diminutive individual cup is freshly brewed for you by the barista. By default you'll get the coffee of the day, but you can request any of the dozen-plus varieties on offer at any time. Eco-conscious bamboo spoons are available to stir in thick organic whole milk and/or organic fructose (which is dark brown and not as sweet as sugar).

High-quality sweet and savoury cakes and pastries can be taken away or consumed in the miniscule seating area up a couple of steps in the back. You might be asked to share a cozy cubby with arty trustafarians or Japanese tourists. There's also a narrow bench out front.

For those who prefer to brew and consume their coffee in the privacy of their own homes or offices, there's a rotating selection of ethically sourced beans available for purchase. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and consistently offer excellent recommendations.
