AVOID

Well below expectations
I detest using this station, far too cramped. Whether you use the lifts or use the stairs it takes forever to get of there. I can't even believe that even being a station with four lifts there is still congestion. I do all I can to avoid this station, using Holborn or Leicester Square, as I know I won't be late for work just trying to exit the station. Given that it is actually only 15 seconds on the tube between Leicester Square and Covent Garden, and Michael Johnson could run the distance in 19.32 seconds, its worth the two minute walk from there to get to Covent Garden.

This station is constantly busy with people going to the Covent Garden markets as wel as to Leicester Square - which actually isn't much of a walk - the platforms are always packed and it's just a nightmare..

I really don't get all the fuss about Covent Garden, so it always surprises me that this station is so gosh darned busy! If you don't go then I couldn't hold my hand up and say that you've missed anything.

One thing I would say is if you're like me and hate lifts get off at Hoborn or Leicester Square and walk, cos there is literally a mountain to climb to get out of Covent Garden.
Whatever time of the day you go this place is always rammed but when you get out you see why, a beautiful shopping arcde and some lovely restaurants which are well worth a visit.

Get off at Holborn instead

Right in the heart of Covent Garden, with Long Acre's shops at one side, the Piazza, Opera House and Transport Museum the other.
This cramped little station is an ideal stop off during working hours on workdays but be warned... its not the same on weekends! Cues are the norm, as are directionless tourists!
Far better stroll to Covent Garden's attractions from Holborn tube (central and piccadily lines) - just a five minute and well signposted walk down Long Acre.

Rammed

Many people get on at Covent Garden to go to Leicester Square... don't. You actually walk further getting to and from the train than you do actually walking overground between the two stations
It's always rammed. if you can get an overground map and walk from one of the nearby stations that won't be as cramped

busy busy - and just down the road from Leicester Square!

As expected
Many a time I have begun to queue at Covent Garden only to think to myself "what am I doing?!" and walked down the road to the far less busy Leicester Square - it's all of 200 metres down the road! Covent Garden is touted as the busiest stop on the underground and it could well be - being right in the middle of a busy shopping district in London. Until recently it was 'exit only' although this has now been lifted, and I believe it is the only station on the underground where you have to use a lift to get between high street level and platform level!
