Mexican with a mexican twist

This isn't the place to go for your burritos, enchiladas or chili-con-carne; but if you want authentic Mexican (mole sauce and all) this is certainly a great visit!
If you are unsure on what to have they offer a 'tapas' style menu from which you can order multiple dishes and not feel like you have eaten a whole cow after polishing them all off and licking the plate clean. If you know what you are looking for there is also a large 'main course' menu consisting of larger portioned dishes.
I'd recommend avoiding puddings and sampling a couple of tequila's instead (they have a range of over 40 at varying prices).
On a weekend their is also a downstairs disco and this can lead to a rather odd dining experience but ignoring that the food is great and at a good price!

Authentic Mexican cuisine.

Mestizo offers a more authentic take on Mexican food than somewhere like, say, Café Pacifico in Covent Garden or god forbid a cookie-cutter Tex Mex place like Chiquito's in Leicester Square.
This means you can get the things you're used to getting but will also find a lot of things you won't have found on other menus, like chicken in a chocolate (molé) sauce for example. The Argentinean steak melts in the mouth and the staples like pico de gallo salsa and fresh guacamole are very pleasing.
I came here for a birthday with a couple from California and they told me it was as good as any they'd had there - praise indeed! It was my birthday and the exuberant hostess treated me to a tequila shooter while she smacked a hard hat that she'd put on my head.
Unique!

As expected
Have eaten here a couple of times- service good- v. smiley and bought us tap water mid-meal without being asked which I always think is a good sign. Food definitely better than I've had in Mexicans nr Leicester Sq/Covent Garden- tho' obviously it's pretty heavy on the meat n cheese. (Huge) main courses for 3 and a drink each cost us £47. Lots of sharing options so would be good for big groups too. Also has a huge selection of tequilas for those inclined and a small club bit downstairs.
