busy but worth it!

We walked up to the Flask having been walking round Hampstead Heath all morning and it was well worth the uphill struggle in the sun! The courtyard garden is stuffed with an absolute jumble of tables and chairs but it is somehow charmingly quirky! Our food took over an hour to arrive and you will never see a more orderly queue for a bar but somehow as we weren't in a hurry it didn't matter. Looking forward to my next visit

The Flask is a really good pub, with a great drinks and food menu. Sounds odd, but if you've got to the go the Royal Free for any reason and need a drink to steady your nerves before hand or celebrate afterwards I would really recommend a visit. It is fab in the winter with the fire. But also great in the summer 'cos the garden is large and sunny. There's a mixed clientele everyone from Chris Evans and failed members of Big Brother to yummy mummys and city slickers.

Flask of the Summer Wine

If you're busy exploring Highgate Cemetery, looking for the Vampire, and feel a bit thirsty, then I'd recommend popping into the Flask. Situated at one end of Pond Square (which is haunted by the ghost of a chicken), The Flask is probably the most ye-olde-villagy pub in Highgate Village, all nooks and crannies, haunted bars and pricey gastrofood. Dickensian at Christmas, and with a beer garden for Summer drinking, the major downside is that this place gets stupidly busy, so arrive early if you want the luxury of a seat.

the flask...what's happened to it? i've been going for years, and it's always held a special place in my heart - quirky staff, amazing location, tasty food and drink. but the last 6 months has seen it decline into a shambolic mess that has kept me from even going for one - what a disappointment. they're often out of food, bar snacks and certain wines. the staff barely look at you now. and the food, when you get it, is poor. let's hope it pull itself back to its former charm.

The Flask has to be one of the most popular pubs in Highgate, with an extensive outdoor area with heaters in the winter, and a pleasingly cramped and cozy interior.
I noted on my last visit, last saturday that it was named eving standard pub of the year in 1974. Well the evenind standard crew really should drop by again, as it's still an excellent pub worthy of more up to date praise.
Some of the quirks of the place are found in the extensive outdoor area, which being entirly covered in tarmac, reminds one slightly of a carpark. The heaters also throw out a tremendous ammount of heat, and did in fact melt a picture frame hung outside.
The food is best described as standard, but quite good, british gastro pub fare. It's not exceptional and the quality can drop markedly when it kitchen is under pressure of a sunday lunch time.
Having said all this the flask is a nice little pub, well worth a visit.
Cosy country-style pub

The Flask is an extremely popular pub in Highgate, and definitely possesses the area's village feel. The beer garden is always busy, both in winter as well as summer now that it has heaters. Inside the layout is unique with cosy seating areas. Drinks are expensive, but comparable to other pubs in the area.

Great pub in Highgate

The Flask is a fantastic old pub in Highgate village. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere inside with old worn furniture and low ceilings which make for very cosy surroundings. There is a big beer garden out front with plenty of space for lots of seats, which get taken very quickly especially in the summer, as it is a very popular place. In the colder days of autumn and winter there is sheltered seating outside too and they even have heaters so you can stay outside until they close, which is a nice touch! There are a great range of tap and bottled beers aswell as good ales, something to please everyone! The food, though I've never eaten here, is supposed to be great, if a little on the pricey side, and well worth the money. Sunday roasts are also standard, which is always a big hit with punters! To summise, the flask comes pretty damn close to being a perfect pub, definitley pay this place a visit!

Pub with fantastic beer garden

The Flask is located in the middle of Highgate village, and it's selling point is definitely it's large beer garden. The beer garden overspills with Pimms drinkers in the summer, enjoying massive burgers from the barbeque. In the winter large heaters ensure the garden is still busy, but the warm and cosy cavernous interior attracts most people. The Flask has gorgeous ambience, but note that it is pretty expensive and has a tight over 21s policy.

I found the Flask purely by accident whilst looking for pub's in Highgate. What a great find! Not only do they have a great selection of drinks including the wonderful Fruli Strawberry Beer on tap, they have a large outdoor seating area, mostly sheltered and heated for the winter. Inside the pub is quite small but its tastefully done and it has a good selection of food. Your first port of call for anyone going to Highgate for drinks.

I read in Timeout that this was one of the best pubs in North London and I have to say I agree with them. Lots of seats inside and outside, good atmosphere, pub food, young and old drink here probably due to the wide range of drinks they have, some even on tap like Fruli Beer. If you go to a few bars in Highgate go at the end of the night because if you go their first you will probably never leave it until closing time.
