Silver 'Spoons

With its mock-tudor exterior, and upstairs theatre, you'll be momentarily fooled that this isnt a Wetherspoons. Once inside though, you'll notice the same old Wetherspoon's touches, making this as familiar as a tatty old pair of trousers you've had for years. Obviously, this is Highgate, so the old men at the bar are of a slightly higher social standing than in your standard 'Spoons. Worth going for some bargain prices in an area not known for its bargains.

Wethers with a difference

This pub is not really like other Wethers' you may have popped into. Granted, it's obviously not the place for a fabulous night out but if you're in or around Highgate and looking for:
a) a cheap and decent fried breakfast to cure your hangover
b) a beer garden on a Sunday or Bank Holiday (need to get there at 1130 am though!)
c:) a quick evening meal mid-week
...it will do the job nicely. The steaks and lamb shank are surprisingly good quality for 'pub chain' food
Down market pub in an upmarket place

The Gatehouse is the only place in Highgate that is dirt cheap, and so is very popular with locals and school kids who try their luck with getting served. The pub is very large and has a separate eating area, and it is just a Wetherspoons - but as they go it's quite a nice one. Best place to go in Highgate if you're not bothered about ambience but want a cheap pint.

Very good Wetherspoons

Ive only been to The Gatehouse twice before, but both times I have enjoyed spending time in there. Unlike other Wetherpsoons pubs, there doesnt seem to be a 'rough' element to the place, this is perhaps because of it's upmarket location! Theres all the usual fair you get from your average Wetherspoons; good quality and range of ales lagers wines etc. without your high quality prices, the food selection is good and again not too pricey with the grill clubs and curry clubs offering good deals, but an added extra here is the decent sized beer garden, which are too few and too far between in London. Best of all is the fact that theres a small theatre upstairs, so you can have dinner and a show all in the same building, superb! Try it out!!

Cheap pub

The Gatehouse is a Wetherspoons pub , for those of you not familiar with the chain, Wetherspoons are very cheap pubs (the cheapest pubs I've ever come across in London) which serve up pretty crappy but cheap food. The Gatehouse is a bit posher than most Wetherspoons (not that surprising really , it is in Highgate).
