Brilliant

The best bit about the British Museum isn't British at all... its Egyptian. As a child I remember being totally amazed and freaked out by the mummies - brilliant. It's an amazing museum and really recommend it.

We had a great time here, just wish we had more time to really explore all the different exhibits. Loved the Egyptian exhibits, well worth a visit!

I've been here a few times at the weekends and it beats going to the shops! You can never to it all in one go, so pick your area carefully and go and explore! The building is as amazing as the artefacts in it. Wandering around you will instantly be transported to another time and place and be mesmerised by what you learn. But remember you can have fun too! And when you've had enough wandering, head for the main atrium. It has an amazing roof and is lovely and light - a refreshing change after some of the darker galleries!

Really interesting exhibits, you'll learn a lot!
Now I know why the Acropolis is permanently covered in scaffolding...

This is an amazing museum and when I've been here I always say I'll only be a couple of hours but end up spending the whole day - bargain as entry is free. The quality of dispays and information attached to them is brilliant.
The Ancient Greek and Egyptian displays are truly amazing - however now I know why the Acropolis is permanently covered in scaffolding - because most of it (sadly) is in the British museum and not back in Greece where it should be. I'm sure many countries wish that the amazing ancient artifacts on display here were returned to them, and although it does upset me that these cannot be displayed in their country of origin I am also grateful that they are on display here so that I have the chance to see them.
I know a lot of reviews here have said that there weren't any mummys when they went, but the last time I went they had loads of mummys and sarcophagi - a whole room of them in fact so I was not disappointed.
The gift shop is nice but a bit expensive. They have quite a few educational products rather than just the normal tourist products branded with the museum's name which is nice to see.

The British Museum is amazing, you will see upon arrival the scale of the interior, on viewing the Parthenon-like entrance to the building. When you visit this place you really are overwhelmed by a sense of British history. You discover what a bold and explorative nation we have been, and ruthless in our taking what we like from where! Whenever I go I rarely get past the Egyptian and Greek rooms, as the artefacts on display here cannot be passed by easily or quickly! Some of the relics are copies but others are not – some so huge you cannot fathom how on earth they were moved and shipped over here.

The British Museum in London, England is a museum of human history and culture. Its collections, which number more than 13 million objects, are amongst the largest and most comprehensive in the world and originate from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginning to the present.

Slightly disappointing

Last time I went to the British Museum was for a job interview, but before that, I decided to make the most of it and have a little looksy round my favourite parts of the place.
I love the parthenon gallieries and the egyptian galleries- although there as a distinct lack of mummies that time- very disappointing.
The Parthenon galleries never fail to amaze me, although the conduct of the visitors does. I know its hard to resist, but please try not to touch the freize- you'll ruin it for everyone else.
The other thing that disappoints me about the British Museum was the attitude of the senior staff to their colleagues- it wasn't very pleasant and I have found them to be generally not very polite at all.
Apart from that, The BM is a great day out- has amazing architecture and lots and lots to do for all ages.
Well worth a visit.

Favourite with tourists

As expected
I have been to the British Museum on many occasions but would not make a point of going there expecting to see anything unusual. That is as its displays are always the same. Mummies Greek temples dismantled and moved to London where Greek history is approreated and made out to be our own?
A nice feature is the British Museum's reading room it was once the British Library at it has been renovated in all its glory. The book stock is ordinary. There is a shop a cafe and good toilets.
Overall a busy haunt for tourists as you would expect which is a lot or is it for what is one of the worlds top tourist destinations? You will have to decide when you visit.

I wasn't expecting much from this museum, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sheer range of exhibitions is very impressive, as most museums I've been to usually concentrate on one particular stage in history.
It would be easy to spend a whole day there, as there is so much to see. The main hall itself is amazing and it's easy to navigate as well.
However, expect to run into a few school trips while you're there - most of the cafe seating areas were taken up by schools, and some exhibitions were difficult to get through due to the children getting in the way.
Also the main exhibition which I was interested in seeing was seperate from the rest of the museum - you had to pay to get in, but it was closed anyway.
Even so, it was a nice day out, and I'd like to go back when there are new exhibitions.
PS. I found some mummies in the Egyptian section - cool!
Impressive but no mummies

The last time I went to the British Museum I was in year 4 and went with school. So when my friends came down for the weekend we thought we'd go and have a look around.
The inner court area is extremely impressive with a huge glass roof. The areas you can visit are split into the different areas of the world and nicely presented, but can be a little confusing and easy to get lost.
The one thing I did remember from my previous visit were the mummies but we couldn't find them this time round.
But it's free, and nice to see all the stuff we own shown off for everyone to see.

Take in some of the fascinating information at this famous London museum , I love it. The Egyptian exhibits are my personal favourites. You can spend days looking round as it is massive and it's free, except for special exhibitions, so you can go again and again. Great for children and adults.
