Well im just wanting to say WTF to jenny, clearly you are an angry person,to take the time in your day to post slanderous remarks about a pub is just sad,you clearly dont understand the meaning of rancid? If you didnt like the food explain why, dont say it was rancid, this implys that the food was almost fermenting, come on,as i recall your complaint was the salmon was a too fishy?is salmon not a fish?

Do not eat here- rancid and expensive!

I have just had the most DISGUSTING food I have ever experienced in a pub in the Spurstowe arms. I ordered the smoke Salmon and scrambled egg brunch and the salmon tasted like it had been sitting in a plastic bag and covered in oil for 2 weeks. It was rancid! The egg was not much better and a pitiful amount. My 5 friends all had the English breakfast and for 8.50 a go - one piece of scraggy bacon, a sausage, a burnt piece of toast and a tomato was certainly not worth the money! I will never, ever go back to this pub and I would not recommend it to anyone. Although the girls behind the bar were nice, the man (possibly the manager) was less than apologetic or helpful and sent us on our way when we complained about the salmon. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!

paddy was elsewhere

Well, having lived in Hackney for several months and not seen much in the way of a decent pub, we found this website and stumbled across the Spurstowe.

Being St Patricks Day in Hackey, the options for Irish pubs were limited.

10 minites after arrival I had coined a new acronym. JAFGaP. Just Another Fricking Gastro Pub. Except this was worse than that. Aside from over expensive pints, lacklustre surrounds and £4.50 soups, the music was soul destroying. Think Stevie Wonder's worst love songs.

Well we tried. I'm sure this place could be good given the right music and crowd, but tonight wasn't the night.

For a laugh we decided to head to Wetherspoons on Mare Street for a quick pint. Despite being quite anti-Wetherspoons, we had more fun there than the the Spurstowe!

Hackney Gem

16 Jan 08, 20:59 4* Above expectations

I visited the Spurstowe Arms last Sunday with my mother and farther. I wasn’t aware that there was a hidden gem like the Spurstowe in Hackney. We were greeted with Cheerful smiles and jolly banter with the staff. My family are picky eaters and its usual quite difficult to please them especially my Farther. However we were surprised by the Unique selection on the menu as well as the quality of the food. My farther never has rare Beef. However he tried it this once with recommendations from our waitress. He left his plate clean which is a first. The food was exquisite and my dad expressed ”the beef is so tender it melts in your mouth”. I am so pleased that I found the Spurstowe Arms I no longer have to commute out of Hackney to find a decent place to eat. I recommend it to all hackney residents and all non-hackney residents its worth the journey.

great real ale on rotation, menu is excellent and changes almost daily (the pies rock) and a nice garden for when summer finally arrives. A few nutter locals still, but that makes a change from the mid 30 somethings who sit quietly drinking very slowly!
