A loveable bike shop

27 Feb 10, 16:24 5 Beyond expectations

I thought that seen most of the other reviews seem to have a negative tinge to them I should write of my experience which was a entirely positive one.

I have a old Dutch bike and they do not specialise in them but were happy to refer me to somewhere that did.

Then when I returned to have my wheel fitted they did so and at a very very reasonable price.

The friendliest and attentive service which left me feeling good inside and like going back time and time again.

The shop is charming and the boys were playing good music which is always an added bonus Highly recommended by me.

Sold me the wrong gear

16 Dec 09, 11:37 1 Well below expectations

Back when I was fresh to riding regularly, I went in to the Stoke Newington Two Wheels Good to get a couple of replacement inner tubes for my 28c wheels - being new to it, I even gave The old chap (possibly the git from above) serving the full measurements and PSI from the side of the tyre. He gave me two 27c tubes. When I questioned him, he looked at me like I was stupid and told me they were fine.

Two double blow-outs later and it turns out they were too small for the wheels, which meant they couldn't run at the right pressure for my road bike: the seal round the base of the valve gave way on both tubes after 20 minutes on the go. That was a fun walk home...

Very poor service

06 Dec 09, 00:34 1 Well below expectations

I took my bike to the Stoke Newington shop for gear tuning + some small fixes last week. I picked it up two days after thought it would be all in good conditions now but only found out some of the problem still wasn't fixed and the chain came off VERY frequently. Hence I took it back asking for another check up but after the second visit (with the assurance from the guy it's okay this time), it became EVEN WORSE - the chain came off 4 times in 10 mins! This is really a shocking service and I seriously have doubts of the skill of their mechanics. I was in and out the shop 3-4 times but it is still problematic. I will not bother with them this time, determined to try out other bike shop and will never return again!

Not only grumpy, but arrogant too

09 Nov 09, 13:31 1 Well below expectations

Had numerous run-ins with "grumpy old git" at Crouch End shop and always left feeling ripped off and unappreciated. I don't need a "customer is always right" experience, but don't want to feel put down. Why is he still there?

Grumpy Old Git

02 Nov 09, 21:27 1 Well below expectations

I agree with Grrr g. I went in on Saturday with my girlfriend to enquire about a set of bicycle lights, my friend said he had purchased from them. When i described the lights and the cost of them to the old guy in the shop he responded by telling me rudely "in your dreams" and practically sent us out of the shop.

This is a real shame as I had actually recommended this shop to my friend who had bought the lights there, saying that they were friendly and helpful, because on previous visits i had been served by a very helpful younger guy, who did not prejudge me for my lack of bike knowledge. I only feel sorry for this guy having to with such a grumpy old git!

Anyhow I will not be returning to Two Wheels Good, and will be advising all my friends to stay well clear also

two wheels bad

25 Oct 09, 06:28 1 Well below expectations

I would just like to start by saying this is probably a very good place to buy a new bike or if you own an expensive bike and need a service that is if you don't mind the service you get.

I took in a vintage frame in which needed a good sorting out and rather than getting some sound advice on what needed to be done i basically got my head chewed off by a grumpy old bike geek.

He seemed to take a slightly twisted pleasure in firstly telling me my bike was not only in a 'appaulling' condition it was also 'utterly dreadful' then proceeded to shred every detail that needed to be replaced before practically showing me the door. Kindly grandfather wasn't the image that sprang to mind, rather closer in resemblance to alf garnett meets the dead parrot sketch.

Online orders not so good

20 Oct 09, 08:38 1 Well below expectations

I ordered two bike parts from the TwoWheelsGood online shop 2 1/2 weeks ago. Neither of them has yet appeared. Last week I emailed asking what had happened. I received a reply saying they were still waiting for one of the parts. I asked for them to send the part they have, and send the other one when they get it. No response... This really isn't up to the standard of the other online bike shops out there - SJS, Winstanley etc, all of which are great and let you know immediately if they can't supply some items. Conclusion: the shop sounds good, but avoid online orders.

always willing to sort out any bike problem

30 Dec 07, 17:04 4 Above expectations

I've repeatedly taken my bike in here with problems that I really should be able to sort out myself after eight years of cycling regularly (jammed chain, tyre with holes in etc), but the staff are always helpful and don't mock or comment on my general uselessness when it comes to all things bike related. The service options are good value too. The shop is full of things that are for serious cyclists too.

Non intimidating local bike shop

18 Nov 07, 02:02 4 Above expectations

To start with, please understand I am a very keen cyclist, but I do not own a single item of lycra, nor do I know my derailleur from my elbow. My bike is a beautiful old dame of a thing, very slow and cranky, with a wonky basket and lots of personality. My style is pootling along humming, not speeding along, not weaving through traffic, not bunny hopping up the kerb.

Why do I tell you all this? Because most bike shops seem to cater for bicycle geeks, speed demons and fanatics who think nothing of spending £££. And frankly I always find them unfriendly and intimidating.

Two Wheels Good on the other hand realise that there are people whose bikes are basically transport rather than a hobby. They welcomed my bike in for a service without chastising me for not oiling it religiously enough, they fixed up my broken mudguard for £2 rather than insisting I buy an expensive replacement, and were just generally nice and approachable about the whole thing.

To my mind they seemed very knowledgeable and the small shop was well stocked with plenty of fancy gear, but if you are the bike nut breed (and I don't have anything against them, I'm just not one) you might not find me the best judge of that.
