Yummy

The best thing about Yum Yums is its decor. There's a fab area where you can take your shoes off and sit on the ground to eat.
And the food is lovely too....although I think Ryans Bar and Ittos in Stokey do almost as good for a lot cheaper, but obviously without all the frills.
The staff are lovely but there Tom Yum soup is really spicey so be warned!

The wonderful thing about Stokey is that you are always going to find something different when you walk down the street looking for a restaurant. If you fall into Yum Yums then you have done well. The exotic decor is fun and makes the night a good one but the food is a little bit on the standard side. Not what you would expect for such beautiful surroundings. The building was a hospital for the mentally disturbed and is a listed building. I took my parents here to eat when they first came to visit me in London. Amazing really that you can sit and eat extraordinarily ordinary Thai food in such a wonderful place. As I said, you'll always find something different in Stokey.

Tongue Thai'd

An enourmous, modern Thai eaterie based on the rapidly gentrifying High Street in Stoke Newington.
Food ranged from fatty but delicious deep-fried veg to spectacular (and perhaps a little gimmicky) fish dishes.
As other reviewers have pointed out; the decor, design and attention to detail are something to behold.
The waiting staff are efficient and friendly, even when the place is full.
Yum Yum gets very busy in the evenings, making for a good fun atmosphere, although its probably not the place for a romantic candlelit dinner.

thai food in a lovely setting

I'd agree with the other reviews that the menu is fairly standard, but there are some good things hidden away that have become firm favourites so it's worth ordering the slightly more unusual dishes.
But really, it's the restaurant itself that impresses - with unusual decor and a part of the restaurant where you have to take your shoes off and sit at sunken tables. It's always packed - you often have to wait in the bar beforehand where there are some amazing (if expensive) cocktails.
This is my boyfriend's favourite restaurant - I'm not quite as enthusiastic as him, but would recommend it for sure.
Bi Kitsch Thai Restaurant

The first thing that strikes you about Yum Yum is its size. What looks like a small slight over-stylised/kitsch Thai restaurant opens out in a huge cavernous space which must sit hundreds.
We went on a super-busy Saturday night without a reservation and had to wait at the bar for 20 minutes or so until we could get a seat. Clearly a very popular local spot, even when we were leaving at 11pm the place was still packed with very few empty seats.
The food itself was ok - typical Thai dishes, my Green Curry wasn't dramatically special, nevertheless I think the main attraction of Yum Yum is for large group night outs, where food is of secondary importance. Would recommend to large group nights out, rather than for a quiet Thai dinner.

The best Thai food in Stoke Newington

This is one of the best places to eat in Stoke Newington, although you're spoiled for choice in this area.
The menu's the standard stuff you'd expect from a Thai restaurant: tom yum soup, various prawny starters, green, red, yellow curries etc. It's all absolutely delicious. The staff seem pleasant enough and the decor is quite cute.
Reasonable prices, not super cheap though!
