Above expectations
The back of the pub is the nice bit, and it still holds a lot of its victorian features there. The rest of the decor is light and airy and theres some outdoor seating at the front. Prices are reasonable and the staff seem good.

Below expectations
There have been times in the past when I've fancied a drink and yet felt incredibly lazy. At this time there is only one place to go, and that is the Shaftesbury. Literally a two minute walk away, this is the closest pub to me, and as such it's the lazy man's choice. That doesn't make it an enjoyable experience though. Set with quite a fetching wood framed beer garden out in front of it, the Shaftesbury could be great. Unfortunately it just isn't. The beer is okay, the seating is fine, but for all it's potential, the Shaftesbury could be magnificant. A bit of decent food, a wider selection of beers, a bit more activity, and it really could excel itself. Unfortunately, it doesn't. The pub is a lame duck, and it's worth making a bit more of an effort to find somewhere better.
