great cafe, great food, good prices

20 Nov 08, 15:11 4* Above expectations

This cafe is a wonderful place where the food is of consistent quality and the staff are very helpful and efficient. At the weekends it can get very busy but I would expect to wait when a cafe if full and the food is cooked from fresh. I love this place, it has injected something really social in the heart of stroud green community.

The prices are very reasonable and anyone who complains should go to their local greasy spoon and compare the boiled sausages with the Cumberland sausage you get at the front room.

Will always go there for a hearty lunch with friendly service in a cosy atmosphere.

awfull cafe

I travelled quite far to come here as i had met the owner in the library some time ago. I wish i had any thing good to say about this place and couldnt agree more with some of the comments above . I consider myself to be a breakfast expert and this is what she a raved on about - the best breakfast in north london!! I can offically state it is not , very very expensive for a greasy and uncooked sausage on my plate the tea or coffee wasnt included which bumped up the price to nearly a tenner!!!!1 slice of toast and for some more an extra charge !!! the cherry on the top of all this was the waiter who brought my food over had just taken bin bags out through the door and had not washed his hands b4 bringing my food over, i decided that i would complain to the manager who unfortunalty was rather rude and said that he had , i belive my own eyes thankyou very much. So as the people above are saying no thankyou i will not be visiting again .

great place

21 Jun 08, 01:04 4* Above expectations

The people are nice, some say it is just a coffee place, this is a misconception, it is boxing in, this place is a place to eat and drink, its nice.

The food is real food, yes it is different at different times, but it is good and the atmosphere is really nice. If you are not happy with something they will sort it out.

Lots of fresh food and they have some organic and free range foods, witch is great.

I love it no matter what anyone else says.

Used to be excellent.

The Front Room used to be excellent value for money, great, friendly service and very good food. The prices have increased more and more, the food has become unpredictable, and sometimes you have to wait a long time for the food to come.

If you charge restaurant prices, you expect a certain standard of food. This place has an identity crisis. I used to travel from Muswell Hill with my wife and family on a regular basis to eat at the Front Room but feel now deceived by what's happening. It is such a pity because it used to be one of the best cafes in North London.

I also started to get very irritated when paying the bill. Some of the regular staff seemed to never know the exact prices of the dishes etc.?

I really hope the management rectifies the situation. This place used to be great and people will go elsewhere.

Change for the worst :(

04 Jun 08, 14:52 2* Below expectations

It did expand and for a while it was good with reasonable prices if not on the high side for a coffee place in Finsbury Park not Chelsea.

But it has ideas to be a restaurant in its mind but is still a coffee place. So, the prices went higher and higher, unfortunately the quality of the food went down big time.

I like food and like my girlfriend dont mind traveling a bit for a decent place, but i believe the owners became greedy very quickly. The food became greasy and the flavors are gone out of the dishes. We overheard similar comments at the table next to us. The food is inconsistent, depending of the mood of the people working there. Not good.

On the good side, the deco is tasteful , a bit of dark masculine colors with a feminine touch.

As for the service, it can be quick, or you may have to wait over 30 mn for anyone to see you or be served ..

All in all, if they dont fix the food and the prices, people will go somewhere else very quickly.

Remember, it is a coffee place not a restaurant, and if it wants to be one, well get your facts right :)

Small, but very well-formed

22 Sep 07, 12:17 3* As expected

I think it has now expanded, but the last time I was in, it literally was the front room of a terraced house. But the size worked in it's favour, in that it would never be heaving with people. Good coffee, the standard fare for a cafe - fried breakfasts, panini, sandwiches, but well made. A great place to sit with a book and a coffee.
