an odd but interesting place

Above expectations
The workings of this pub has always been unclear to me. It is big, random, rather understated in decor, but very attractive in its way. There is a small but nice beer garden at the back, and several tables out in front. But there is hardly ever anybody there! This means that the service is quick and friendly, because the bar is ridiculously overstaffed, usually with three people serving perhaps five to ten customers. As for foood, I don't think they do much of it; apart from chips and sandwhiches. I go there often for a beer. The view across the road is absolutely fabulous, looking at a huge old catholic church; very calming. The pub actually seems to make its money from wedding parties (the church!) at weekends - then they do food indeed. It has never ceased to amaze me that the place is not crowded every night, it could outdo every pub in the area.
