Fifty-Six

Above expectations
Fifty-Six is a restaurant that every neighbourhood should (or would like to) have on hand. It's a modern european/French bistro that charges very decent prices, is staffed by very friendly people, has a small rotating list of specials and a solid list of standards, and even has good, inexpensive, house wine.
Their steak and frites, in particular, is excellent. Your steak order comes with just the steak, forcing you to get sides, but it is a very tender, juicey , generous cut of meat. They should be proud of their butchers, because I'm sure many other restuarants would fight to serve the same meat and charge you much more for it.
All their food is solid, and though it probably won't win any awards for originality, the service and homliness of the place really help warm the heart. I've moved out of the area and still make an effort to go back every few months. Do book on weekends because other people recognise Fifty-Six's value as well.
