I went to ESHK's new branch near old street the other day where I think I've finally found the hairdresser and salon that's going to make me stay.
I've been to many salons over the past 3 years, from small local salons to high street places like Toni & Guy, from barbers to award winning salons like The Chapel but I think my search is over for now.
My experience included cool products (sea water!), a querky razor cut and a relaxing head massage, brilliant!
Book the hairdresser named Bart and you will not be disappointed. Great advice, cut and attitude.

Good to hear they are opening a second place. they needed it.
The place is so packed! good and friendly atmosphere though. which is very welcoming as it can be difficult finding a salon where one feels comfortable
they offered me complimentary drinks, i had a cup of tea, glass of water and a bottle of beer!
I paid £70 for my high light and £40 for my hair cut. I'm very happy with the result.
I only have praise for the ESHK salon, if I really have to say what i dont like about.. i would say.. maybe they need an extra washroom!?
I highly recommend ESHK salon to anyone

Simple formula really.... very experienced hairdresser great haircuts reasonably priced. I would recommend to anyone.... however I like how I can get an appointment whenever I call that might change if everyone finds out .... but I heard on the grapevine that they may be opening a second place near old street or was it Angel? anyway keep up the good work!!

disappointing

I had my hair cut at ESHK last week after reading the reviews here. I was slightly disappointed in several things: - there was no mention of the 'free' drink, I was offered a glass of water and that was it - when having my hair washed, there was no head massage, which is usually a highlight of getting a haircut! - the cut is very ordinary, bordering on bad, it doesn't look particularly professional and I left feeling like it had been styled by my mum! It was only £40 so I suppose you get what you pay for, but I was very disappointed.
A very good find

Had become slightly desperate with a disinterested hairdresser, who'd churned out the same cut time after time, whatever I asked for, so looked further afield (we live in Kent) and found good reviews for Eshk. Have now been 3 times, and have been fantastically well pleased. As well as superb cut, I've had highlights too, which are really great. The nice thing is I'm definitely not a young person (sadly!!), but I was never given the impression that I shouldn't be there, or that I shouldn't be expecting a brilliant cut. An excellent experience.

Home Again

My husband and I just moved to London from Nashville, Tennessee in the states. We had a salon home that we had grown very comfortable with and hesitated to make our first hair appointments in London. We are lucky to live down the street from ESHK. My husband actually found the salon by searching on the internet, but when he told me about it, I explained that was the cool salon I had been telling him about...
I found the atmosphere to be lovely and we both enjoyed our hairstyling experience. We left with great cuts. I do admit it was different to have a stylist that spoke to me very little, but I attributed that to the difference in culture. I appreciate that we didn't make up a conversation for the sake of speaking. The music was fun and my stylist seemed to be very focused on what he was doing so I didn't feel awkward to just enjoy watching or reading as I pleased.
My husband got a trendy cut and mine was more traditional. We both left happy and felt that we had been well cared for. We will both be back!

Best salon in London!

Beyond expectations
Having lived in central London for 6 years, I have tried numerous salons in Soho, Covent Garden, the City, even travelling half an hour by train to further parts of the city (Putney!) in an attempt to find the 'perfect' salon.
Well, the search is finally over. Meg and the rest of the team at ESHK Hair gave me exactly what I have been looking for all these years - a perfect haircut, gorgeous colour, and a relaxed & groovy salon environment. All at an affordable price.
Meg, who cut my hair, actually took on board all of my demanding hair issues: she understood that I needed a cut to work with my naturally wavy hair, that I hate spending hours with the blow dryer, and that I wanted a cut that was stylish and modern, but I didn't want to look like a fashion victim. Unlike many of the other salons I have been to, she didn't impose her own ideas on my hair, but still had enough vision to transform my vague descriptions into a cut that was exactly what I was hoping for.
About a day after having a cut and colour at ESHK, I came to the conclusion that I actually wanted my highlights a bit lighter (this was my own decision, not the fact that they hadn't followed my instructions the first time). I rang up the salon and they happily had me back to put in a couple of lighter pieces - all for free and without giving me any guilt at all. They actually said that they would rather have their customers come back to fix any issues, so that they ultimately leave the salon happy. That is what I call service.
Having been to the salon twice in as many days, I saw lots of people having all sorts of cuts/colour - guys, gals, trendy, traditional. It was nice to see a salon where the stylists apparently give the customers what they want - that shouldn't be such a difficult concept, but ESHK is the only salon I have found in London where they actually deliver!
As others have commented, the salon is friendly and funky, with AMAZING music - they should bottle that too and sell it alongside the Bumble & Bumble products on offer.
I have had loads of compliments on my hair since visiting ESHK. I will go back again and again. I hope this is useful for people looking for a great hairdresser!

first time to put my review in the internet, i think they are all excellent and never ever let me down
i live above of the salon and everytime i went to get my hair cut, from the washing, cutting, the atmosphere and the big space of each clients seats i just felt absolutely relaxing,
im so diagree of the other person said 'no conversation' i prefer relax and listen to their music rather than talk nonsense, which is a lot of hairdressers do, they do talk but not like a policeman ask you thousand of questions
my second review here

i went to Eshk today and the reason why im giving them a second review is because i red about Sarah brought her mum to Eshk, so i brought my mother in law(she lives in leeds) there. after having her hightlights and cut done, she was so happy and she said that she is going to come to london every 2 months! And today i changed my colour, i normally dye my hair like chocolate brown(my hair originally is almost black, im greek), and i saw the oriental girl who works there her hair looks amazing, so i asked them to have to same colour, and now my hair like redish brown, and i love it! this is my first first time to have my colour like this, we are very pleased of what they have done to ours hair. sorry to hear about lily's review, but for sure if she sees my hair, she will probably change her mind.
Didn't like the cut - no conversation!

After reading the reviews on this site, and having only just moved to the UK, I decided to get my first haircut here before starting work.
Following a fairly average hair wash, I was sat down to get my hair cut. I explained what I wanted and from that moment on there was no further conversation until it was done.
The cut is stylish but not what I was expecting. I left feeling a little disappointed, more so because I felt there was a lack of ambience due to the silence whilst having my hair done.

Wanted to give Meg and co at ESHK a bump as they are still preposterously fantastic and should be better known.
No one has ever coloured my hair as brilliantly (who me? no I'm a natural blonde!)
Long may she continue to be the best hairdresser in town, with prices that do not match the hype. Too cool for school.
No 56 bus goes straight past too. Tell them I sent you!
Great hairdressers - top recommend

I've been going to Meg at ESHK for years, since before she and her partner set up this, their own salon. Can't recommend her and ESHK highly enough. I'd be bereft without this place to sort out my hair. Have loved every style they've sent me out with and would never go anywhere else.
Great cuts, lovely folk, cool music and all in all a relaxed not overly trendy but quirky salon (old wooden dressing tables instead of counters), oh and they are not expensive either, certainly not west end whack for cuts or colour.
I've seen all ages and both sexes in there as customers, from children to my mum (whose white hair never looked better and they treated her so kindly, made her feel fabulous). Nearest tube is Barbican, or Angel, it is near the bottom of Goswell Road. Or a short walk from the no 55 or 243 bus stop from Old Street or the centre of town.
