By best friend's favourite

Le Mercury is by best friend's favourite restaurant. We go here nearly every year for her birthday and even went here for her hen do. The food is lovely (not amazing, but certainly good) and very good value for money. I have certainly never felt hurried, but maybe that's cos we go late-ish and settle in for the night.

Always seem to end up here for a meal after going to the Emirates Stadium, must be the French connection!
Menu varies but I'll always try to go for the steak or beef dish. Have always been lucky enough to get a table even on busy nights after 10pm but you might want to book if going earlier
Great prices for London too!

Palatable!

Beyond expectations
I spent great time in this restaurant. The prices are not high,at the contrary of the food. I was surprised by the silveware and white tableclothes while I imagined this place in a rusti style, tipical of this kind of restaurants. Sometimes there are some speciality. I advise to try out this restaurant.

Not as good as it was

Well below expectations
This French restaurant used to be a wonderful place for a dinner in Islington, but right now it's too crowded and the waiters are becoming very rude. We went for dinner and had to seat near the door (always open with freezing wind coming in...), and the food was almost cold when arrived. They forgot to bring the vegetables we ordered, but didn't fail to add them to the bill. Still a cheap option in Islington, but unfortunately not good quality or even value any more.
Great french food

For some reason, I'd always thought that Le Mercury was an expensive French restaurant. I don't know why, maybe to do with the rather nice exterior and being situated bang in the middle of Upper Street. When I checked out the prices, I knew that I had to go in! It's a great idea to price all main courses (and starters too) at the same cost, and at only £6.45 for a main, it's great value for money.
I ordered the tilapia with couscous and fruit. When it arrived, it didn't look too great, but it tasted delicious. The combination of tangerine segments and fish may not have sounded too nice, it worked particularly well.
We managed to get two sets of starters, mains and side vegetables for under £30, which is an absolute bargain. Definitely worth going.
Cheap as frites

Le Mercury is ridiculously cheap for Upper Street. Mains are just over six quid, starters 3-4. It's on three (albeit fairly cramped) floors, so it's also reasonably easy to get a table, or book for larger parties. The food is ok, very reasonable for the price, but don't go there expecting haute cuisine. The portions also aren't huge, starters like melon and jambon de bayonne came in well arranged but dainty slices. What I think this place is perfect for is a large-ish group of friends to meet for some grub at the start of a night out. You won't be too full to hit bars and clubs afterwards, and your funds won't be too dented either.

Good value European food!

I first went to Le Mercury in 01/02 I think, and it was great. I went a few times after that and it also good, but stopped going when I'd had enough of smoking restaurants and began a boycott of all smoking food places.
To celebrate the 1st July smoking ban I returned to this old haunt and while was not disappointed, I must admit it wasn't what it used to be / like I remember.
The food was still better than anything of a similar price on Upper St, but the staff were a wee bit more forceful and the music was, well, crap.
I'll go again no doubt if I want a quick. cheap and easy meal with a friend. And probably only when it's dark as the candles on all the tables create an atmosphere that's really rather nice.

Lovely little restaurant spanning three floors. Food is European and very very nice. The tables downstairs are the best a little cramped but very romantic.

Excellent value french food

Le Mercury is a very popular French restaurant, probably mostly due to it's fantastic prices. There's a choice of about 8 main courses, all priced at £6.50. The food is tasty; it certainly doesn't taste cheap! The wine is good, and there's a pleasant candlelit ambience. However, you might feel slightly like you're being hurried; I guess they must need a lot of covers to make a profit!
