The Hope & Anchor

As expected
This used to be one of my favourite pubs on Upper Street. Has recently been redecorated - which was needed but has taken something away. Although the juke box remains good with modern and classic indie music. This pub has a long tradition for a good live music and displays its on history around the walls with pictures and memorabilia.
Good Gigs and Good Atmosphere

Above expectations
The Hope has a good reputation for bands and it pretty much has at least 3 gig nights a week downstairs along the rock, indie, punk areas. Upstairs there are two pool tables and theres a few machines to lose your money in. The only thing that makes this pub bad is its size. It's very small and has only one small bar which means when its busy on a weekend its a nightmare at times to get served and irritating when people barge into you to get past. Other than that its got a lively atmosphere and the prices aren't too bad.

Laid back, friendly, enjoyable, brilliant

Beyond expectations
The Hope and Anchor is absolutely magnificant. I just wanted to get that out of the way for starters. Laid out over three levels, the pub provides so much entertainment for any mood. For starters, downstairs you have live bands. A small room which used to house such bands as the Clash, it is now a home for up and coming bands from across London. Upstairs you are provided with another laid back room, this time with it's own jukebox and pool table, and equally enjoyable. Finally on ground level, we have a nicely laid out room providing multiple chairs, a good selection of beers, incredibly friendly staff, and some great games machines. The Hope & Anchor has everything you might need. It's a brilliant place to go, and I can't think of a time I've ever not enjoyed myself there.
