Above expectations
I've been a member of Holmes Place (now Virgin Active) for around 8 months and this is the 2nd time I've actually entered one of their establishments. The first was the Barbican Holmes place for an intro session. That puts into perspective how much I love the gym and also how much this latest visit cost me (Can't think how they make money).
That said I was pleasantly surprised by the Holmes Place / Virgin Active gym in Chelsea. I chose a Sunday for my first visit as I suspect it would be quiet. It was and there was plenty of free machines. I won't bother boring you with the equipment breakdown as it had all the standard stuff you'd expect including big plasma screen TV's and earphone sockets on the running machines.
The changing rooms and showers were all well kept, you just need to remember to bring a padlock for your locker otherwise you have to hire one for £1. You get a complimentary towel on arrival which I loved. There is a sauna and a steam room inside the changing rooms which I took advantage of after that gruelling, first work out.
Next time I go (hopefully next week, not next year) I will check out the pool and may even start some classes.. they do spinning, kickboxing, body pump, yoga and loads of other stuff. I think the big test for this place will be whether it gets ridiculously overcrowded at peak times.
