great beer garden

15 Jul 08, 14:17 4* Above expectations

One of the best and biggest garden bars in London. They are now doing a great bbq Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday from 2.30, great food. 3-4 Min walk form Brixton Tube or 8min from Clapham high st. Friendly and fun staff, all very relaxed in a professional manner. Great hidden treasure off the busy roads. New management recently which has made the pub a lot better. Great music, 2 pool tables.

Definitive South London summer pub

13 Jun 08, 11:44 4* Above expectations

An initially uninviting boozer on first approach, but it's the garden that's the winner here, but get there early to blag yourself a table. Crammed into a triangular chunk of land next to a railway line, it's not the most attractive location, but if you're meeting a group of friends on a summers evening, what more do you need? Barbecue action at the weekends.

The secret garden of Brixton

06 Aug 07, 17:16 4* Above expectations

Right, from the outside, this pub looks like the sort of place that you really shouldn't go in unless you've got a bull mastiff and lots of tattoos.

But, as they say, looks can be deceptive. Inside they seem a friendly enough bunch and it's pretty publike with TVs to watch football, and pool tables to chase balls around.

However, the really exciting bit is the absolutely humungous beer garden out the back. Alright so it's kind of close to the railway line but it's massive - you just don't get beer gardens this big - especially in London. The added draw of a barbecue means it can get busy on weekends, but if you can't be arsed to heft a picnic hamper to the common, this is a good place to be.
