Beyond expectations
Between New Cross and New Cross Gate stations (a six minute one-stop from London Bridge) is somewhere a bit different, the New Cross Inn.
I go there regularly and find the bar staff, security friendly and the general atmosphere friendly and inclusive whether you're with friends or having a solo adventure checking out new bands.
The beyond expectations rating is due to it being a pretty ordinary boozer on the grimy New Cross Road from the outside and a surreal mix of art gallery music bar inside. When the live radio sessions are being recorded there, you could be in New York.
It's earned a reputation as a hub of the thriving, arty community in New Cross and Deptford and one of the breeding grounds for cool new bands.
It also serves affordable drinks in a down to earth area with a large student population.
Friends travelling to late finishing clubs are happy that they can get a bus every ten to fifteen minutes into Central London 24 hours daily (well, it is on the capital to continent main road!)!
