Beyond expectations
Review is a truly independent bookshop that is a breath of fresh air amongst the mish-mash of shops on Bellenden Road. It's a friendly bookshop where the staff (particularly Ros) are extremely knowledgeable and happy to assist you in your book selection. I was after a book for a Welsh friend recently, and Ros suggested a book on camping in Wales which was perfect.
There's a little corner where kids can sit and read books, plus the basement of the shop is being turned into a reading room. There's also a great area outdoors with a giant backgammon table. Review do regular book launches, plus it's worth signing up for their newsletter to find out insider information about the local area.
In addition, the shop sells a great selection of quirky and unusual gifts, wrapping paper and cards - great for last minute presents. And it's worth a trip into the shop if you're a doglover to check out Gus the lurcher!
