I recently had trouble with my car not starting. I thought the battery needed charging, so I went to Halfords and bought a charger. On connecting it up to the battery it told me the battery was OK. Thinking I had bought the wrong charger, I went back and exchanged the charger, but the next one was no better. So I went back and got a full refund.
I went to a garage to get a second opinion. AFTER A LOT OF SCRATCHING OF THE HEAD, I mentioned that it may be the starter motor. "Yes", I was told that is it. I ordered one on eBay, and it arrived, but it was the wrong one.
A trip to Halfords with the wrong starter motor was taken. I went up to the counter and asked if they had a starter motor for my car, as this was the wrong one, and asked which was the right one? I was handed another started motor. £50, plus my old starter motor was the cost, but was it the right one? The assistant manager came over, looked on the micro fiesch, made two phone calls and said "there is one for a fuel injected model and one for a carb model - you must need the fuel injected version. Come back at 4 and we will have one". "That will be £105" he said, twice the price, but you can not scrap a car over a starter motor can you? As the car had only done 23,000 miles, so it was like a new model, having been serviced 17 times in 15 years, it was an easy decision. The new starter motor fitted perfectly, and it is guaranteed for 2 years.
Halfords is the place to go for car parts, that is for sure! The main Renault dealer had no interest, or the MOT garage, as the car was so old.
