I love Pickles

Above expectations
Oh joy, what a find. Having spent plenty on trains and tube to get to the Rothko exhibition at the Tate I couldn't face paying silly money for silly food inside and asked a taxi driver if there was a "proper" caff nearby. Hoorah! I had the "breakfast" (I'd been travelling for 5 hours that morning), chatted to the owner, laughed with the other mixed bunch (kitten heels, brouges and steel toecaps), and really relaxed, all for £3.50. Closes at 3pm. (The Rothko's were good too). Sandra

Beyond expectations
Britishness is not about multiculturalism, it's about being able to order a full english breakfast any time of the day, thus making it an All-Day Breakfast. London is swimming in greasy spoons (Kilburn particularly saturated), but sometimes one pops up that is a cut above.
Pickles Cafe is 100 yards walk from Tate Modern and the Tate's £5.50 mushroom and feta focacciabattas. At Pickles you get Full English Breakfast with Toast twice and a tea for £3.50. Unbelievable. And it tastes as it should, and the eggs are good. The matriarch is a right laugh, they've got papers to read for customers, takes no time for the food to arrive and you can spit on a Hockney you're that close to the museum.
To summarise: proximity to Tate Modern=brilliant; value for money=brilliant; quality of fried eggs=outstanding; do you get a complimentary paper=yes you do.
