A Jewel in the Tooting Crown

Above expectations
The Selkirk is a must for good food; the Sunday roast it legendary and comes with a host of trimmings, although the sardines are genius (and a recent addition to the menu) and arrive all chargrilled and crispy, like you've just caught them by the river and rustled them up yourself!
It has a decent beer garden and an impressive range of lagers including the entire Artois family

Bar billiards in sarf London!

A little oblique I know but how many pubs do you know with the classic pub game bar billiards?
I think the table in here is a hangover from the Frog days but who cares, the good thing is that they've retained it.
As per other reviews I can concur that the food here is good and the portions generous. They also have 2 or 3 decent ales on at a time and a decent sized walled beer garden that (needless to say) fills up quickly in the summer.

Not a bad local

Ive recently moved to the area was on the look out for a decent "local". Since the Kings Head on the High Street is ungoing refurbishment I've been forced to look slightly further afield.
I'd walked past the Selkirk a few times and thought it looked ok. I wasn't disapointed. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff were friendly and the food was good. What more could you want from your local?
They even show the footy! Bonus.

Above expectations
It's not uncommon to wait for up to an hour for a table and then possibly another hour for a roast at the Selkirk on a Sunday. Yes, that aspect is not the best - nor is the service who are generally too busy to pay too much attention to much outside of taking orders and serving. BUT, when the food comes the huge portions and well-prepared plates offset any prior inconvenience. There are numerous (quicker) options outside of your normal chicken, lamb or beef. The burgers and pies are also recommended although they are stingy with the chips...
