The Queen's Gallery

Above expectations
This is one of the few galleries in London that isn't free, and I know it sounds like it would be well, a bit rubbish, surprisingly its not.You can participate in gift aid here, and the gift aid, and cost of the ticket goes towards the restoration of the Royal Collection art (not into the Queens pocket!)
I have now been to several exhibitions held at this gallery, and none of them have disappointed. Even if you aren't into the royal family, find Prince Charles to be an annoying old fart and want to twat Camilla upside the head- its well worth a visit.
The current exhibition is "The Art of Italy", and features some of the rarest and most beautiful art from the renaissance period, and with their being no barriers around the paintings or furniture you can get up really close.
The staff are generally knowledgable and helpful- I don't think much of their uniforms though!
Be careful of security though- go in with something dodgy (pepper spray, guns, machetes) you'll probably find yourself up against some enormous gun weilding police officer pretty quickly!
There are no cafes on site- but the shops are excellent, if a bit pricey. The cafes on Buckingham Palace Road are on the whole, satisfactory.
If you don't do anything else while you are there- check out the toilets- they are gorgeous, and full of molton brown soap and handcream. Make the most of it!
