I always think the window display is great here, the last time i was here they had an amazing yellow dress in the window and i just went straight to that designer section, tried it on and brought it. Its posh and sexy in here with lovely expensive things.

Love to hate it.

I have a love hate relationship with this department store. If you want and can afford designer clothes you will love it as the choices are endless and if you like to wonder around marvelling at gorgeous things you won't be upset. I have had a number of bad experiences in there though, especially when trying to return things that were brought for me as a gift.. you have to go to the basement like a criminal for your refund. Plus, I have never found the staff to be particularly pleasant, and have found myself vowing never to go back there.. I always do though as there is something so appealing about it... Oh and the beauty hall is amazing!!

If you love shopping, this is heaven for you. There is literally everything you could imagine here from fashion to manicures to fresh pasta....! You can even stop off whilst shopping for a Kir Royale or oysters to fill your tummy. My favourite pit-stop is the OPI nail bar.

Everything you'll need under one roof

This is the ultimate shopping destination on Oxford Street. Selfridges quite simply has everything you could possibly want under one roof - whether its clothing from the biggest designers, cool gadgets for a friend, ice cold glass of champagne or diamonds galore, this place has it all.
The only thing to watch is that it is very easy to get lost! However there are plenty of staff on hand to guide you in the right direction.
Take a comfy pair of shoes as you could be in there all day!

The very best department store in London, without a doubt. There is absolutely no place like it. I had my wedding list here so know everything the cookshop has, which is pretty much everything you could wish for. The clothes are pretty spectacular too

Amazing for clothes

Selfridges is just the best - for clothes at least. For most other things then I think you are better off going to John Lewis down the road as they offer better service and information.
However for clothing for men you just can't beat it. You'll always find something, but you do have to be a bit patient and it is best to try and avoid the crowds that build up after 1pm on a Sat and Sunday.
The choice and range of brands make this my first (and generally only) point of call when I am out clothes shopping.

Everytime I come here its like the middle of the sahara desert.. except it smells like perfume and theres expensive clothes everywhere. Yes, theres some great stuff here.. but you can get it cheaper elsewhere... and without the heatstroke.

Selfridges is probably my favourite shop in London. You could wander around it all day looking at all the different things and not get bored.
My favourite floors are the basement which includes gadgets, technology, books, luggage and an HMV. What more could you want.
The young woman's section is very funky and occasionally has DJs playing. Plus who could ignore the amazing Food Hall - pure brilliance. Make sure you go to the Brass Rail for a salt beef sandwich - you only need a half!

Badly laid out

Out of all the department stores on Oxford Street, this is the worst one for getting around. All the passages are narrow, it's hard to browse without a queue of people trying to get past. Even on a weekday morning, you still have to trudge around slowly because there's too many people trying to get to the same place at the same time.
The products here are nice, but the prices are marked up so high, it's not worth spending the money. You can go down Oxford Street and get the same thing for cheaper.
I always find it a disappointment leaving Selfridges. I always go in thinking I'll be leaving with lots of bags full of stuff, but I inevitably come out leaving with nothing.
Archetypal department store

To my mind, Selfridges is everything that a department store should be. It is large. It covers almost every retail sector. Its stock runs from the mundane to the amazing. The wine department runs from plonk to mortgage-demanding specialties. The food hall offers Oxo cubes and smoky bacon flavoured locusts. The book department rivals a provincial Waterstones. There are antiques, oriental antiquities, porcelain and acres of clothes. And just to make sure that you never leave, there are bars and restaurants every bit as good as independent businesses in the streets outside.

You don't get pestered...

I hate shopping. The bit I hate about the most is when someone asks me if I need any help. If I need it I like to ask for it, not vice versa... In fact, if I get pestered in a shop I often leave a few seconds later... It's worst in those small fancy designer shops, the ones with 3 t-shirts on display and nothing else..
I don't mind shopping in Selfridges though. It's massive, has loads of clothes and best of all it's so vast you can shop without being pestered so much. And if you know the shop you discover some really quiet changing rooms where every man, woman and their dog isn't checking you out when you’re trying on some skimpy lycra. For the men, there's a quiet one about 20 metres to the right of Vivienne Westwood, and MiuMiu, and also one behind the Ted Baker suits.
Also, get there at 10am on Sat or Sun and it's really quiet - you get about 2 hours before the crowds rush in...
I guess it might come out a bit pricey but I'm happy to pay that little extra for some privacy...

Great department store

Selfridges is a fantastic department store, and this one on Oxford Street is it's flagship store. It sells pretty much anything you need , but everything is top end, and so expensive. The food court is amazing; it offers everything from the Veuve Cliquot bar to Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Some of the clothes are good, but mostly out of my price range. There is a great range of jewellery, make up and perfume.

This famous store is as great as its reputation. Fantastic to browse here I always find what I am looking for. Then grab a champagne cocktail. This is a good place to use HMV as the concession is far less busy than the stores on Oxford Street.

Selfridges is a full on shopping emporium. Something for everyone, from proper designers to the high street staples like Whistles. Impressive designer handbag section on the groundfloor. Little cafes everywhere. Good electronics and book departments. Their Christmas shop is always fun and tends to be more directional than their competitors who tend towards trad at the festive season. Probably the best Shoe Floor in London, extensive.
