Great burgers, great value

10 Aug 07, 10:19 4* Above expectations

Working in Soho I have to say this place is a godsend for both client breakfast meetings and after-work drinks.

They also do take-away, which I haven't tried, although a colleague reckons the burgers are great and just a couple of pounds more than a sandwich from Pret.

The eggs benedict is amazing and they serve it everyday, not just at the weekend like some places. Another tip is to add a shot of a spirit to their milkshakes (I like vanilla with amaretto), although I wouldn't recommend having too many as they are pretty filling (and fattening, I'm sure!)

It's a really cool place to go in the evenings too and they let you sit at the booths, even if you're not eating. It's actually nice to go somewhere in Soho for a cocktail where you don't have to spend 10 minutes standing at the bar to catch someone's eye, only to be served a load of fruit juice by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Here, they serve you at the table and the cocktails are really strong and tasty.

Only complaint is that when it's busy, although the staff are all sweet (and good-looking!) service can be a bit slow.

I really want to like this place....

27 Jul 07, 16:54 1* Well below expectations

But it just misses the mark every time....

Firstly they have got to sort the beer out. The lager is incredibly fizzy - so much that it seems like cider, and worse gave a terrible hangover (although that might have been drink mixing!).

Worse is the quality of the food and the pricing - £7 for a burger to be told that i had to get fries separately is crazy for basically a glorified pub. The food quality was poor when it came.

Our waiter was really sweaty, literally wringing wet with it, which was pretty off putting to say the least.

Finally, you can't tell which toilet is which. And that gets embarrasing - although the toilet styling is cool.

The decor is close to a US style, and could be forgiven if the rest came up to scratch, but it doesn't so the decor looks and feels on the cheap side. Its confused - it doesn't know if it's a london lounge bar or traditional american diner.

I think it's run by the owners of two floors on kingly street which is a soho institution, without trying nearly so hard, so hopefully they'll be able to sort it out.
