HK Diner is a good place to start. The staff are friendly - they don’t actually look like they want to turf you out the minute that last bit of noodle is slurped off your chopstick - and there’s actually some banter going on between them which makes for a lively atmosphere.

An excellent place for a quick bite to eat after being out drinking. Great tasting food (actually one of my favourite Chinese places in the Capital food wise), not too expensively priced.
Its one drawback is the "quick one in one out" atmosphere. That, and as pointed out above, the constant staring from the staff who clearly don't have enough to do. Lets you know how it'd feel to eat inside a fish bowl.

The food is pretty good, it comes quickly, it's not expensive and there are usually a lot of Chinese eating here (especially downstairs), which I usually take as a good sign.
You won't get the greatest Chinese meal ever, but if you fancy a quick bite in Chinatown and don't know where to go, you could do a lot worse than HK Diner.
Pretty much what I expected

My friend was visiting London with me when he was wondering why there was so many Chinese restaurants around. Jokingly he said "it's like we're in Chinatown or something". Which of course, we were.
HK Diner was one of many Chinese restaurants in Chinatown that we could have gone in but luckily HK Diner was pretty good. The staff were the Chinese equivalent of those snotty French waiters from TV sketch shows, looking at you like you had pink dreadlocks and no trousers on. Not a great start, I thought.
Anyway, the food was good, I had crispy pork and rice, which was a generous portion for the cheap price. Pretty much what I expected really, bit on the greasy side, but tasty nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend it at as a night out but I would recommend it as a quick stop-off meal on a night out.

Couldnt agree more with Rik. Obviously, they employ way too many waiters/waitresses, which resulting employers>work situation. This induces the staring, which make customers just a tad uncomfortable.
HK Diners is actually quite popular amongst the 1X to 2X age group, probably becuase HKDiner serves relative cheap dishes, and bubble tea which is always the youngsters' favourite.
It is definately a place for a quick stop-off meal and for take aways.... and thats it.... again, dont expect any services... (but actually much better than Wong Kei)
