This is a great cineme in the West End catering for an artier crowd than the Leicester Square big screens. Films shown tend to be indies or foreign and attract an intelligent crowd.
As well as a glorious cake cafe upstairs, you can buy beer from the downstairs bar and take it into the screening rooms. The seats are comfy also.

The Curzon cinema

I was introduced to this quirky cinema/café/bar by my sister last November, for drinks, cake and interview practice (the evening prior to my interview at Classic FM). From the exterior, the Curzon doesn’t look like anything particularly special, but once inside, it is really wonderful. The range of cakes, by Konditor & Cook, are amazing (the Curly Wurly cake is a must) and the soups and spinach & parmesan muffins taste fresh and homemade. This place is a lunchtime favourite and is also perfect for an after-work glass of wine and a film.

Independent films cinema (but also showing releases and short films) with a nice venue and a bar. You can enjoy to see films here ... keep away of celebrety presentations if you don´t like crowds of people
Better than most West End cinemas

I went here again recently after having not for a year, and was impressed with the small changes, especially the Konditor and Cook branch which has transformed what was a relatively grotty coffee shop! The lobby is now a nice place to relax, and probably a good place to go in its own right.
Look out for the celebrity presentations of movies. I went to see Mulholland Drive which was presented by Will Self, and I think they do a few of these events.
The screening rooms themselves are nothing special (but are fine), but what makes it a treat is that you can take drinks from the bar into them.
Fundamentally this is a way better experience than any of the other mainstream Soho cinemas, and cheaper too.

London's best cinema

Why don't more cinemas followed the Curzon's template. Eclectic range of movies, lots of double-bills, interesting talks, host to every other niche film festival around and most importantly a cinema bar and coffee shop attached that you'd consider visiting even if you weren't there for the film.
Given that cinemas allege that the bulk of their profit comes from the concessions, I've never understood why it is so rare, therefore, to come across a decent coffee shop or bar attached to a cinema, especially as you have a near captive audience before a screening, and that after a movie whether you've seen Citizen Kane or Patch Adams, you tend to have something to discuss regard the film - that cinemas are so eager to push you out into the street and off to a nearby establishment for their trade has always confused me.
Rant aside, the Curzon cinema continues to show the best of world cinema and thanks to their great bar, is a cool place to hang out afterward.
Reading Neil's review above, I agree that it can attract a semi-pretentious crowd on occasions, but compared to some other cinemas - NFT, Renoir, they are a pretty subdued crowd.
While not at the electric cinema's cinematic-luxe end of the scale, the Curzon definitely leans towards making a night of enjoying a movie housing a Konditor and Cook coffee shop and a laid back bar, where you

Good selection of films...

As expected
This place is pretty cool. The selection of independent films offers you something a bit different and the venue is nice too. There's a bar downstairs which is usually fairly quiet and the cinema itself is nice and comfy.
The one problem with this place I have is the wanky crowd that attends, but I guess that can't be helped at a 'cool' cinema. And also I once had a run-in with one of the bar staff. I stood there for a few minutes waiting for him to serve me. Then I politely said excuse me and me said 'bar's closed' without even looking at me. After a few heated exchanges I told him his mum must be proud and left sharpish. Haven't returned since...

This is a great cinema showing both new releases and "independent" film as well as shorts. There often features and double bills. A chance to see films a little cheaper during the day and before 3pm on Sundays.
