My favourite department store in London

I love Liberty because it feels like wandering around someone's slightly ramshackle old mansion, full of gorgeous nick nacks. I try not to go in here as I always end up with a huge hole in my pocket when I leave, but the staff really are quite lovely and knowledgeable. I like the fact that the staff are all ages, races, shapes and sizes, unlike some other department stores. The sales are always good, in fact that's probably the only time I'd venture into the store so that I don't feel too bad about frittering away loads of cash on lovely, but usually unnecessary, purchases!
I want to live here

It's fabulous. I love the building with its carved staircases and uneven floors. I love the layout - not cluttered. I love the eclectic mix of designers and the handbags. The makeup department stocks Kiehls, NARS and Elemis which makes me very happy. It stocks a great range of products that use the Liberty prints (amazing bags and fabrics). And it has a bonkers vintage furniture within homewares which is brilliant.
Most of all I love the personal shopper. Not that I use her very often. But if you've got a special occasion coming up and you need an outfit, there's nothing better than trotting round the store and getting someone to pick out clothes that normally you wouldn't go anywhere near. It's marvellous . And a total eye-opener because they get it absolutely right. Every time. Just be prepared to take a hit to the wallet!

I do love Liberty for its rickety flooring and hidden little coves of gorgeousness. The ladies section for clothes isnt as big as other department stores, but do a great Joseph collection. Everything is well displayed and the jewellery dept is totally unique with cheaper items available.

This department store has got to be the one with the most character, it's lovely. An old tudor building, it has a great feel to it even before you step inside. When you do go inside it doesn't let you down. Every department has good quality ranges, from clothes to accessories, cosmetics to homeware, a really great store

It's lost it's edge

Much classier than Harrod, Liberty was always known as the cutting edge department store in London with designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Jean Muir and many more starting their careers there.
Unfortunately in recent years it's gone a bit down hill - it's lost it's unique approach to the goods in store and has become more generic and like other department stores which is a shame. It's also only a third the size it used to be.
For a tourist though, it's well worth a look as it's very much a part of London.

Liberty is a fantastic Tudor building that was built with the beams two ships. A couple of the nice architectural details include commemorative carvings honoring the Liberty employees who died in the past. With small, intimate staircases, intricately designed elevators, wooden balconies and glass atriums – this has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing and unique department stores in the city

Liberty is a very popular department store with the upper middle classes and tourists. Services include homeware, flowers and cosmetics. Liberty also sells clothes, which are good quality but definitely for middle aged people. The building is very impressive.

If I had to pick my fav department store this would be it. Forget clinical Harvey Nics and impossible to navigate Harrods. Move over show off Selfridges. All you need is Liberty. It's quite simple. Everything here is beautiful. From the entrance, surrounded by the exquisite Jenny Packer flowers, to the ornate carved staircases, everything is wonderful. Their collection of womenswear is small by other stores standards, but it is discerning. The Liberty own stuff, with their famous prints and fab packaging is definitely worth a look, as is the beauty section (smaller than it used to be, but still fabulous). This is what shopping is about.
