Superb European Beer

27 May 08, 16:53 5* Beyond expectations

This is one of my favourite watering holes they serv Oranje Boom Lefte etc all varieties the service is great and they will have the football on on match days etc. There is an odd fishtank behind the bar with nothing in it great for staring at whilst waiting for a mate to arrive. Can be very busy but it is W1 or near as damn it!

Mmmmmm Cherry Beer

27 May 08, 13:45 5* Beyond expectations

I love this pub, but I can already say this is going to be a rather vague review because I often can't remember much about the place when I leave... That said, I do always leave sporting a beaming smile, and usually can't remember getting the bus home, which is an added bonus :)

Try the cherry beer, you look a bit silly after several pints (kind of like you've just eaten one of those lollipops you got had when you were a kid), but it's sooooo good.

Nice

Not sure if this is London’s only Dutch pub but I think it might. They serve typical Dutch food, which isn’t a reason to go there. Think deep fried cheese covered in breadcrumbs.

The reason to head here is the atmosphere, late(ish) license and Orangeboom. It’s not as strong as most continental lagers but it sends you loopy. De Hems is heaving on a Friday and is a great place to meet before heading off somewhere else.

Duvel

A home of quality Belgian and Dutch beers all of super strength you can often find me a little worse for wear in here after an Arsenal defeat after I drown my sorrows. A popular place with a buzzing atmosphere.

Thank Frulli for De Hems!

22 Apr 08, 17:33 3* As expected

I love this bar, although it is very popular and gets really busy on an evening. It's well located on the periphery of Soho and their selection of Dutch beers is very impressive.

We usually frequent the top floor, although the trek to the toilets in the basement can be annoying once you've been there a few hours!

A great venue for a few cheeky drinks after work (although I am yet to sample their food!)

Dutchy of Soho

15 Apr 08, 10:09 3* As expected

This is a nice off the beaten track pub that serves Dutch food and beer. The service isn't bad too but expect it to be crowded on football days because it is a great hang out for supporters. Upstairs is a nice large bar which you can hire out for birthday get togethers. Have been to a few which worked out quite well. It is quite dark in the pub, interior is dark wood. Toilets are okay but not brilliant.

Magic

A fine selection of very well kept beer - by which I mean lager - most of it Dutch, all served with a good continental head. Leffe blond and dark, strawberry beer, Amstel, Heineken, etc.....Pretty bar maids, and a small but interesting menu featuring Dutch treats like sausages and chips and mayo. A good old boozer, classic stinky toilets, but an airy less-used bar upstairs. DJ nights get a bit noisy, but most nights seem to attract a good healthy mix of tourists and those popping in for a decent pint after work. Not cheap, but all the beer is so strong you're supposed to drink it by the half. Don't, and you'll have a good night. Very close to tubes, nightclub and the cheap and cheerful dim sum fantasy of Gerrard St. There's an interesting history to the place, and it's a great place to start a big night out.
