A tree, a maze of nooks crannies and a great pint of guinness ...

Have had some great nights in Waxy's this summer, with a nice atmosphere with the GAA, accompanied with some sunday grub and live music it hits all the right buttons for this punter. With the tree and all the nooks and crannies to hide away and drink your pint in, you'd want to get there early to appreciate the uniqueness of this pub

Theme park pub

I used to love this pub when I first came to London. It was vast and had what it seemed 10 pubs in one and there was a tree like thing in the middle.
I don’t venture back too often but when I do the atmosphere is always good and the beer always flowing. It does get rammed on a regular basis and if I want a quieter drink its little sister across the road is a better shout. I think these guys also own the porterhouse in Covent Garden.
Waxy's isn't a theme pub it's a theme park of a pub

Irish Pub

Not really very Irish, unless i am missing something, altho they do serve guiness, not that i would drink it. Its ok and mainly busy after 5.30 with the suits. There are some nice places to sit with hidden little coves, if you can get there first and nab one.

Yes! The tree in the middle of the pub, scaling each floor and spreading its branches akimbo is quite something to see. The layout of the pub is sprawling and unique, there is nowhere quite like it in Soho. I don't mind the tenuous Irish connotations. They serve great Guinness, and that's enough for me...what do you want, Irish dancers kicking away like in the Irish pubs in the US? They wouldn't have the room to do it around the tree in this place anyway :)

Massive pub over many levels with lots of nooks to get lost in.
At some point you expect to find David Bowie dressed as the Troll king asking you if you know the power of the voodoo, but it's easy to lose someone in here. Still, it's got character and that's often rare in London, so it's definately worth a look

better than O'Neills but no more Irish than Tony Cascarino

Big pub in Leicester Square across about 4 floors, loads of nooks and crannies in there to get lost in, and gets extraordinarily packed post-work.
In its defence, it does a good pint of Guinness, but I struggle to see how a lick of green paint & playing "Whiskey In The Jar" every 10 tracks makes the place a traditional Irish pub.

A Pub with A Tree In It
21 May 07, 20:15
Beyond expectations
I was told by a close friend to go to this pub a while back because its an unusual pub. And he was right, as right in the middle of the pub is a great big tree! About 2 storeys high although it is dead, they have built some of the walls into the branches but it does look pretty awesome. The rest of the pub is pretty cool, theres some remains of a church they shipped from Ireland and the layout is almost like a labyrinth which so many corners and levels to explore. Definately worth a drink or two if you are in the leicester square area.
