Nearly shat myself above London

12 Jun 08, 12:59 3* As expected

Well, I didn't know I had vertigo until I'd got in here, and of course, you can't get out halfway round. It was a suprise present from my then girlfriend. How romantic. Unfortunately I ended up remembering it for all the wrong reasons, as I sat, fixed to the bench in the middle of the pod, staring at my shoes, my hands, anything except looking out into the void, certain in the knowledge that any second now the whole wheel would start to pivot round and crash, apparently in slow machine, smack into the Thames. London looked great, well, the bits I saw through my fingers when i didn't have my eyes screwed tight. I was going to give this place 2 stars, but for the sheer rush of euphoria I had as I sprinted off the eye at the end of my 30 minutes of torture they get another mark. Once was more than enough...

Like fireworks?!

30 May 08, 12:44 4* Above expectations

Heres a tip for you!! Book a London Eye flight for Bonfire Night this year! I did this last year and it's amazing... you can see almost every firework display in London... a real must... and i thought it would be more to book on that night, but it isn't at all... a standard flight cost us about £40, if your feeling extravagant you can order champagne too... the only let down was the ride didn't actually last that long, it's about 20 minutes from start to finish, but theres so much to take in you need hours!

I had high hopes for the London eye

29 May 08, 22:45 2* Below expectations

I had high hopes for the London eye (no pun intended, honest). Yet I was expecting to be slightly more thrilled by being a paying customer on one of London's hottest attractions. There is only so much enjoyment you can get from this structure on a cloudy day, so my advice is: if you want a ferris wheel, go to a fun fair and if you want to see London from a great height then do it from the London Eye on a clear, sunny day.

I can see clearly now

29 May 08, 17:59 5* Beyond expectations

I remember when a giant ferris wheel was first proposed and I honestly though that it was a joke.

I love the London Eye. There isn’t anywhere else on land that you’ll be able to see how vast yet small London actually is. This is a must for everyone who visits or lives in London. Apparently you can see over 40km on a clear day.

I suggest getting there early on a sunny day in an attempt to get a less cramped capsule. Don’t take pictures just enjoy the view and think about why it takes so long to get to work in the morning rush hour. You may also be amazed at how much open space we actually have.

The only view that betters the London Eye is flying into London City Airport.

You can see for miles

28 May 08, 13:49 4* Above expectations

when i went we were lucky enough to have a pod to ourselves which was really nice, there actually quite big inside too.

It takes about 40 mins to go completely round and at the top the views are incredible.

You can have champagne flights too at dusk which are amazing and well worth the money.

Is that the Eiffel Town!?!

28 May 08, 13:10 4* Above expectations

When I was on the London Eye there was an American - who said to his wife... "look darling you can see the Eiffel tower"... he was referring to the TV transmitter at crystal palace. So whatever you do, make sure you get in a pod without any Americans in it! No seriously, it is FANTASTIC. The views are amazing and even if you're afraid of heights it feels so safe and smooth you won't be frightened.

The best attraction in London?

23 May 08, 13:05 5* Beyond expectations

Like everyone else, heard about the London Eye for years. Finally took the plunge and went on it last year.... it was great. It's one of those things you should make the time to do. We were lucky, we went up on a very clear day and saw for miles. "Checking in" was easy and even though there were massive queues, they went down quickly and the pods weren't crammed to fit more people in. Definately worth doing.

Great fun

22 May 08, 16:58 4* Above expectations

This is a must if you have never been on it b4. We always take visitors on this amazing piece of engineering. Even if ur affraid of hieights, you'll be ok on here. Its just like standing in ur front room, looking out the window. Moves very slowly so no worries about speed .. it looks like a ferris wheel, but you dont think so when ur inside

Eye Eye Captain Wheelseye

22 May 08, 14:20 3* As expected

This attraction was great for the Millennium as it put London on the map (along with the awful Dome around this time). Great for tourists and excellent for another way of seeing London from the air withouy flying via plane or helicopter.

Its good don't get me wrong, but still lacks the Wow Factor that maybe it could have had, but It does what it says on the tin, it goes round real slow...which is good, as when you get to the top, you want it to stop to give you the best views. I can imagine the best time to go on the London Eye would be on a Clear Day, At Night or At Sunset. I went on a wet dull day in February, bet hey its something you HAVE to do, to at least say you've experienced it.

p.s. Look out for American Tourist taking so many pictures they can make a London Eye flick book at the end of the ride :o)

It goes round round round and round again but don't forget its even better by night. London at night is so sexy and it looks great from the eye.

In the eye of a storm

20 May 08, 14:46 3* As expected

Overall it's a fab thing to do...I've done it a couple of times and you really do get a great view of London. We got some great photos of the Houses of Parliament. In the next capsule we saw a group of people either getting married or holding a christening. I wish they could make it clearer which sites and famous buildings you can see though...something like a projection on to the glass as you move around. This is very popular so the downside is that you end up queueing for as long as you're on the actual ride (you have to queue to get your ticket and then once you're ready to go on the Eye). The busier it gets, the further they move the queue backwards which means you are constantly moving to make you think that you're not hanging around for as long as you actually are. Also, even though there was a security check point, I had a bag with me and didn't feel like I was checked thoroughly enough. If you don't like heights, don't go on it!

Fantastic views

20 May 08, 12:23 4* Above expectations

The views from the very top of the Eye are absolutely amazing... on a clear day you can see for miles...

it is quite pricey, especially if you're a family group, but if you're visiting London for the day, it's well worth a visit.

You get a handy booklet thing that helps you identify what you're looking at across the city.

Báječný výhled na Londýn

18 May 08, 12:42 4* Above expectations

Makes you proud of our capital

17 May 08, 15:34 5* Beyond expectations

I've only done the Eye once so to speak but the minute I got off I was all 'again, again!' It is just incredible...well worth the cost and even the queues at busy times. You can buy fast track tickets if you're not the patient type...it might be worth the few extra quid.

I worried before I went that I might feel a bit woozy up there but you don't even realise you're climbing and the views are so stunning you're completely absorbed by it all. My 'flight' was on a beautiful summer's day...now I want to go back at dusk to see the twinkly lights of London.

It's hard to believe this infamous landmark was originally only planned to be in place for a year. London just wouldn't be London without it.

Brilliant

16 May 08, 20:18 5* Beyond expectations

You get such a great view from the top of the eye, seeing the Oxo tower, the great sight of Wembley standing proud and the Gerkin.

I went at easter when Green and Blacks were doing a spot the easter egg competition, somewhere over the city was a giant egg, spot it and stand a chance of winning the UK's biggest chocolat egg! I found it over the Oxo Tower!

Worth the money but pre order your tickets or you'll be queuing for hours.

Great views of my favourite city

13 May 08, 12:52 4* Above expectations

Went on this with the family on a day trip once - the good thing about it is you can pre-book your tickets so you don't neccessarily have to wait for a huge amount of time. It lasted longer than I thought it would and the views were briliant. We went on it near to sunset so it was daylight when we went up and evening by the time we got down, so we got to see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben all lit up. Worth the money, I think it's an enjoyable way to see a bit more of London.

EXCELLENT

01 May 08, 20:54 5* Beyond expectations

This is a must, well worth the money. You can't go to London and not go on this millenium attraction. It takes about half an hour or so and goes all the way round, it doesnt stop at all and the security is really high. At night it is all lit up and looks spectacular!

Watch out for the dry humpers

29 Apr 08, 17:00 2* Below expectations

This really is a tourist attraction and a half... I went up in it ages ago and it cost me £12. You're always going to pay loads for something like this. It's so slow but you do get an amazing view. I do have to warn you now though: If you enter one of these pods, you WILL be surrounded by dry humping couples. I don't know if it's something to do with the change in altitude, but suddenly you look around and feel like you're in someones bedroom. I'm all for a bit of romance but please! I'm not a huge fan of things that lock you in either... but you have to go on it once. Just take some wasp spray or something for all the couples!

total rip off

28 Apr 08, 17:45 3* As expected

It's not cheap but you do get some pretty amazing views of all of London's top landmarks.

Kind of nice to take relatives from abroad to or if you wanna propose to somebody then it's a nice choice but I got up there and was bored after about 5 minutes - which means I spent the next 20 not doing very much

The ONLY way to see London, This is a must. Ive been on several times now and the amusement never wains. OK so a bit pricey, but hey who know how long its gonna be here? So if you get a chance to go, do. While there, get tickets to the Aquarium as well, then nip across to the Houses of Parliament. All within walking distance.

Vertigo

21 Apr 08, 18:36 4* Above expectations

Hello Hello! I was ironically listening to U2 on my iPod while I went up on this thing and it was pretty scary if I'm honest, because the pods are really clear glass so you feel like you're floating. Very smooth, very slow, and very expensive this is one big wheel you'll only go on once and they put lots of people in each car so it's not very private either.

Hmmmmm...big ain't it?

19 Apr 08, 14:53 3* As expected

It looks impressive, and to all intents and purposes it is. I mean it's a Big Wheel sitting on the edge of the Thames.

As you meander along the queue, that does actually move fairly quickly, and start the ascent, you do feel a little excitement welling up - after all the potential view will be fantastic - a view of the entire London skyline, unhindered.....

....Unless of course there is any cloud. If there is you are shafted and you don't get your money back. It is worth the trip, but just make sure you check the weather before you cough up the cash !

An absolute must

18 Apr 08, 21:39 5* Beyond expectations

If you're in London, you really have to brave the queues and get yourself on the London Eye.

We went at dusk and the view was breathtaking - don't worry if you don't like heights, I don't and was absolutley fine.

Get a guide before you get on - its an awful lot easier to work out what's where and makes the trip even more interesting.

Great - especially the champagne flight!!

17 Apr 08, 13:11 4* Above expectations

I went on the Eye the first year it was open. I really enjoyed it, and even though I hate heights I never felt unsafe (so don't worry if you also hate flights!)

Last November, my girlfriend and I went for a weekend in London, to get away from uni.

I booked us a Champagne Flight on the eye at dusk and it was absolutely incredible. Seem to remember it cost us about £40 for the two of us, but it was so worth it. The evening is definitely the best time to go on the eye, London is beautiful from the sky at night.

Amazing!

London Eye

A great way to see the city, especially if the weather is good, take your camera. Didn't have to queue to go on, and if you can get your own pod even better. Remember to smile at the camera on the way down!

Eagle Eye view of London

16 Apr 08, 13:11 4* Above expectations

A ride on a big wheel is always a fun experience but a trip on the London Eye really ups the excitement stakes. Offering panaramic views over sights such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Wembley stadium you suddenly get an idea of Londons sheer magnitude. I've only gone on during the day but apparently a ride at sunset is particularly impressive.

See the capital from up high!

15 Apr 08, 17:50 4* Above expectations

I LOVE the London Eye! A massive wheel right on the river - they would have never got planning permission had they said it was permenant from the start! Still, thanks to it being a massive success it is still there and still attracting tourists at a rate of knots!

When I went my little brother got scared of heights and wouldn't move from the middle, bless him...
