Rammed meat market

18 May 08, 18:33 2* Below expectations

I went here with a couple of girls friends on a Saturday night... and although this will make us sound old (we're not that old) and borring (we're not so boring)... this pub was a crazy busy meat market. And even more depressingly the "meat" on offer wasn't up to a very high standard. I don't know what it's like on a week day, but I'll not be going back on a Saturday night.

Good for big mixed group

15 May 08, 22:48 3* As expected

I've had a mixture of experiences in this bar but overall it does the job... ..especially good if there's a big group of you and it's quite a mixed bunch. Not a good place for a date or even catching up with a friend...gets really noisy when busy. They also have this bizzare rule that you're not allowed to stand up in the area where there's tables. The staff are all really good though; fast, polite service. During the week they have some decent offers on wine but it is quite pricey for what it is at the weekends.

Great cocktails, good food

06 May 08, 15:42 4* Above expectations

Pitcher and Piano has a lot to offer. Head down there during the week and you can grab a cocktail for £3 or a bottle of wine for £10 on a Thursday. The bar itself is modern, sophisticated and stylish. You can even hire out areas of the bar for a birthday celebration.

The food is good, it isn't exceptional but it is definatly good food for your money. We went there on Valentine's day and paid £25 for 5 courses! The only problem was that there was quite a wait between each course. The open plan kitchen means that you can see exactly what your food is up to though!

I would definatly head down there for a bite to eat, cocktails with friends (try the easy mango, its lush!) or a little birthday gathering before heading to a club.
