Nice food but pricey

I never used to like this place but met up with friends there recently and changed my mind.
It has a really nice atmosphere in there, the staff were nice and friendly and the food was great.
My one reservation is that I think it is quite pricey for what you get...but I suppose that is partially due to the fact that you're right bang in the centre of Brighton.

Excellent Food

I've only eaten here once but it was very enjoyble. The service was efficient and friendly.. ...although there was some confusion over our booking and the member of our party who arrived first ended up somewhere else unbeknown to us. Not sure how it happened but once sorted it was a good meal. Plenty of choice on the menu. I had a mushroom starter which was probably the highlight and chicken for main. If your looking for somewhere reliable and not too 'exotic' in Brighton (perhaps for dinner with an elderly relative or fussy mother) then this may be a good choice.

Good for entertaining Westminster correspondants!?

We took our Westminster Correspondant to Browns last time he came to Brighton for a party conference and it was a great venue. The food is good - not amazing - but good... and they do red wine by the glass. Our waiter was friendly friendly and helpful and we had a lovely big round table. Aren't round tables great when you've got a crowd and you all want to hear what each other is saying.

The bar makes a mean Espresso Martini

You have the choice with Browns to enjoy a cocktail in the bar, or sample their French bistro menu in the restaurant two doors away (on the other side of Heals). The bar makes a mean Espresso Martini, which is a great pick you up at any time of day (or night).

Arsey staff...good food!

I've only eaten at a couple of branches of Browns...the Brighton one being most local to me so I've been there a handful of times. The food is always really well prepared and tasty. It's a little on the expensive side but it is worth it.
The last couple of times I've been there to eat I've found the staff a bit up their own backsides...maybe that's how they're taught to be?! Last time in particular the guy who served us was efficient but looked as though he'd rather be anywhere else in the world. He finally broke a smile near the end of the night when my dad took the Mickey out of him...well he deserved it the moody git.

But a great place. Atmos very good as is the food. I have not been for about 20 years, but it's still going so must be ok. I will save up and go again one day.

Eveything you'd expect from Browns, plus more!

Apparently This was the first Browns and opened in 1973 with one simple guiding belief, that classic food, well delivered in a stylish environment would be a recipe for success! (I got that from the menu!) The only thing that has changed since then is the number of Browns, now running at fourteen, of which six are in London, all prospering with the same theme... However, being the original, this one is definately the best, and well worh a visit.
Good points: Can't go wrong!
Bad points: May be let down by the other restaurants parading with the same name!
