People watching hotspot
15 May 08, 22:56
As expected
The food at this place isn't the finest cuisine, but as the other reviews have mentioned, it's location makes up for this. The outside balcony is a prime people watching spot. You can see right the way along kensington gardens... ..particularly good on a busy weekend. There is a wide range of food on offer but it's not brilliant.

Average Brighton Cafe with run-off-the-mill breakfasts

Below expectations
As the previous reviewer remarked, the best things about the Kensington Cafe are its location and its outside balcony that overlooks the hustle and bustle of the main pedestrianised shopping street in the North Laines.
If offers pretty good baked spuds with any topping you could imagine, but it's the English Breakfasts that let it down. You can go for a "Big Veggie" or a "Big Meat" neither of which are anything to write home about. The sausages taste cheap and processed and both the toast and bacon had more in common with cardboard than cordon blue.
Still, you pays your money and takes your choice. Though if it were me I'd venture a couple of streets further north to the corner of Trafalgar Street where you'll find the excellent Nia Cafe instead.

Kensington Gardens Cafe

Above expectations
Tucked away in Kensington Gardens in the North Laines, The Gardens cafe is quint-essential Brighton. With its quirky artwork throughout, a lovely upstairs balcony looking down on the lanes, and a menu that takes up two whole walls, it is definitely a place you would come back to for its good vibes and comfortable feel.
