Disappointing...

I must say, I have to disagree with other reviewers...
I went to Blanch House for a friend's 30th birthday last year... it had been highly recommended by a number of people... but I was very disappointed...
We had the restaurant to ourselves (they let you have it for private functions on a Sunday night)...
Whilst the service was good and the staff friendly, the food left a lot to be desired... I chose a fish dish (I can't remember what type of fish it was now), but it was very watery... on a bed of butterbean stew, which was even more watery and tasteless. Friends on my table chose other dishes and were also disappointed. Definitely not worth the (high) price we paid for our meals.
I do really like the bar area - it's really kitsh and good fun. They do change the menu regularly according to what's in season, so maybe this was a one-off bad experience? Not sure I'll be going back in hurry though.

Highly recommend Blanch House. The food here is excellent, the service is very good - without being in your face. But the best thing is the bar - the cocktails are AMAZING! Also I had some friends who stayed here in one the themed rooms and they said they had a wonderful time and commented on how warm and friendly the whole place is.

Beyond expectations
I've only been to Blanch House the once but was completely blown away. I went there to eat just before Christmas with my parents and their friends. We were treated so well by the staff...I'm a veggie and my mum is dairy intolerant and they made such a huge effort to make sure we were properly catered for. They really took the time to speak to my mum in particular about what she would like to eat even though the restaurant was full and they were very busy.
The restaurant itself is very intimate and not in the least bit pretentious considering what an amazing reputation this place has. Not only are the staff helpful but they are great characters too...they're smart and interesting and really know their food and wine.
After dinner we stopped for a cheeky cocktail or two in the bar. It's very plush but friendly with a massive selection of drinks...I was the only non-drinker in the group. The staff in the bar really went to town on my Virgin Colada...it was a work of art. Even the glass was shaped like a pineapple...Del Boy would have been envious!
Because of the prices Blanch House is to be visited on a special occasion...but make sure you go at least once. It really is very special.

I took some friends here for New Year's Eve last year, we had a great night. The food in the restuarant was fantastic and the waiters were great fun. The bar is cosy, just the way I like it, and it was a great place to be for the turning of the year

Ticked away in Kemp Town, Blanch House has one of the greatest cocktail menus i ever did see. Get completely sozzled in this comfortable trendy and up market boutiqe hotel. If you get hungry the food in the restaurant is of top quality and exceptional standard - and if you get tired choose a room to suit your mood - as they are all themed and different. Book early though - i hear this is the place to be seen.
