It's not the Taj Mahal...

17 May 08, 16:18 5* Beyond expectations

...but you could be forgiven for thinking you've arrived in India by mistake as you spot this incredible building on your way into Brighton down the A23. Built under the watchful eye of the naughty Prince Regent the Royal Pavilion is one of Brighton's greatest landmarks and museums.

Although Indian in exterior appearance...many of the rooms inside are Chinese in style and decor. Quite odd! That's the whole charm of this place though...it makes no sense at all and is all the more interesting for it. Just beautiful.

Is it an onion

22 Apr 08, 09:08 4* Above expectations

As you drive into Brighton towards the seafront - the most beautiful building suddenly hits you on your right hand side. The Royal Pavillion is majestic with its onion shaped domed roof. Inside is equally a box of delights with antiques and furniture from royalty over the centuries. Chinese themed in may of the rooms there was a definate flamboyance which all stemed from the Prince Regent. A must see if you are coming to Brighton and the gift shop has some pretty cool memorabillia for you take home and remind you of your visit.

The Royal Pavilion

11 Nov 07, 17:44 5* Beyond expectations

The Royal Pavilion is really a sight to see. Pretty much the most picturesque landmark in Brighton bar the pier, it is a mighty Taj Mahal-like structure in the centre of the city. Built during the reign of George IV who wanted a holiday resort built for him, it is a cultural mish-mash. With Indian elements making up the exterior, elaborate Asian ornamentation inside and numerous other influences, the irony is that its designers never went to the countries they were imitating before it was built, which is half the reason The Pavilion is so peculiar and wonderful. A museum today, you can't say you've been to Brighton unless you've been here at least once.
