At last ......

Digital is the latest reincarnation of the legendary Zap club under Brightons arches. My first visit was many moons ago and had very fond (and hazy) memories. Since those days it has been drifted through a host of 70's/80's/90's nights which to be honest have been a load of sh!*e There fore when Digital relaunched everybody was wondering if it could finally be a success again. Personally I think it has. They are a varied nights throughout the week, covering Urban/Hip Hop/ Drum n Bass/ Indie/ House so something for everyone. My thing is house and have been on a couple of Saturdays. Great time hadon each occasion and really impressed with the new layout and Funktion 1 soundsystem. Will be going back for more!!

An old flame revisited

As expected
I used to drive to Zap (now Digital) from my hometown of Southampton as a hungry 18 year old. Alright I was 17 but don't tell anyone. I was bang into my hard house and loved the Zap and all its glorious weirdos. I spent many a crazy night in there flinging myself about and talking to people I probably shouldn't have.
I don't really club so much now but have been to Digital in the past year to see Gallows and British Sea Power. It's small enough to feel like you're part of the act...well Gallows spread themselves right around the place anyway so you didn't have much choice in the matter. Both were excellent gigs and strangely well suited to a place known for its strutting dancefloor lovelies.

Got off to a good start...

The former Zap got off to a good start. We were promised a really diverse range of music and high calibre artists. The line ups looked promising and I eagerly watched the much needed renovation take place during my weekly runs along the seafront. Ame - one of the world's greatest DJ's, Ian Brown and Grace Jones started to put the boot into Brighton's sad club scene. But all hope has sadly gone. Back have come the one dimensional Hat Club, Pussycat Club and Gorgeous playing bandwagon funky electro. Come on Brighton, you can be more innovative than that.

A brand new club for Brighton, Digital has taken over the occupancy of the transitory Zap club, and changed the vibe ten-fold. No longer having the cheesy 80's/90's pop marathons that Zap was known for, Digital brings the best in electronic music of all genres with a brand new Funktion-One sound-system to go along with it. It's also been completely refurbished and is positively plush! Clearly, there's always going to be some music you don't like, but there's enough to cater to any musically-orientated clubber for at least one night a week.
