Joan Collins at The Threatre Royal

Beyond expectations
I went to see Joan Collins when she was on tour here and it was excellent.
As I am a fan of hers anyway I found it a very moving experience to see her in person and it was really exceptional. The audience loved her and she was so dynamic.
I would definately go here again.
Star spot - the Queen

Yes I once met the Queen at the Theatre Royal in Brighton. Okay maybe met is a bit strong, but she came to celebrate some anniversary of another and I was there too! The Theatre Royal is stunning and the atmosphere if you're sat the stalls near the front is fantastic, if the show you're seeing is good that is! However, as others have mentioned it isn't the most comfortable.

Nostalgic Theatrical Experience

Above expectations
People have been enjoying this theatre since the early 1800's and it certainly proves that people were shorter in those days.
The building is absolutely beatiful and you can imagine it being lit by lamps before the advent of electricity.
Most of the productions are either on their way to London or starting to tour so you get see some great productions

Beautiful...

...but not always that comfortable the Theatre Royal is about as traditional a theatre as you can get. It's a very old building and although it looks stunning from the inside it can feel a little cramped and my word does it get warm!
That said I do love going there and have seen some brilliant stuff over the years. The variety of productions is vast...something for everyone...and you can't beat the taste of the ice-cream during the interval. Especially if you've been melting up in the balcony!

Have to add

I have to add that there is sometimes a strange smell wafting through the auditorium. I have noticed the heat and appreciate that the theatr is old but they need to add and update the toilet's as queing into the 2nd half of a show you have paid to see is not my idea of fun! BUT.... It is beautiful and the quality of productions there are very high.

The Theatre Royal has been open in Brighton since 1807 and is one of the top 5 oldest thetares in the country, in which case i can forgive the unbearable heat if you sit in the top balcony and the old loos and infrastructure. In fact its very beautiful and a real treat to go to any show. The Theatre Royal always have an ecclectic mix of shows so its always good to keep an eye on whats coming up ... and their Xmas Panto is always a go see affair. If you do book seats in the Gods - make sure you are good with steps... there's lots of them.
