Great service

Above expectations
I never used to use the bus, not because I'm a snob but when I was at uni you couldn't get on the bus unless you had the right money, the timetables were confusing and when I then moved to somewhere in the North, I didn't use the bus because quite frankly I value my life.
In Brighton and Hove though it is much different. The buses are clean, safe with CCTV on them and it's reasonable....however I only go on a straight road from Hove into Brighton and back so I can't tell you if they're actually any good really....it works for me though!

What timetable!?

Below expectations
It can't be denied that the city has a very extensive bus service and you get from just about any A to any B if you're prepared to be patient. I have most cause to use the regular services the 25 and 49... ..these run every 6 minutes at peak times according to the timetable. The problem I have is that the timetable may as well not exist. You'll wait 18 minutes and then 3 buses will arrive in convoy at the same time. If they catch up with another bus why on earth don't they wait 6 minutes?? It's not like the timetable at the stops ever corresponds to the time the actual buses arrive. It's not exactly rocket science is it?! No. Instead the drivers would, it seems, rather have their 49 driving buddy to race through the city with. The pricing system is crazy as well. I live just outside the city centre zone so have to pay the full fares to get into town. If there's 3 or more of us... ..even the taxis work out cheaper. Sorry planet earth but as long as this continues I will be getting in my car whenever possible.

Service without a smile.

As expected
I don't use the bus very often , maybe thats the problem, but why does almost every bus driver in Brighton find it difficult to put a sentence together..... and then why do they have to break so HARD so that everyone on the bus is jolted out of their seat and ready to kiss the person infront of them. I look forward to the day when i get a welcome hello and a bus thats as nice on the inside as it is on the outside. Great marketing and design !! Great use of local people.

Buses cost more in Brighton than London
16 Apr 08, 13:46
Well below expectations
Seeing as buses cost more in Brighton than London, you'd naturally expect a better service. However, I've experienced drivers not bothering to stop and moving off whilst passengers have tried to board. The biscuit came on Saturday night on the No.7 on my way home from seeing some friends in Kemptown. The driver decided to park his bus (complete with passengers) on Queens Road to go into a newsagents and buy himself three chocolate bars. It was late enough - 10:45pm - and he was in the shop for at least 5 minutes. If we're paying through the nose to use buses, at least give us the service we deserve.
