Barneys

From the outside it gives the impression of being a bit like a big chain pub with plastic food and undesirable customers.
Step through the doors and it's a different story. A nice friendly atmosphere. Good food. Friendly and efficient service.
Good for a drink on a night out and a post night out hangover recovery breakfast.

I heart Barneys!
This is definitely one of my favourite places to go at any time of day in Hove. I'm a picky vegetarian but cannot fault their veggie breakfast or other non-meaty options. I'm also a massive fan of their pineapple & lime smoothies and imagine my delight to discover they sell decaff tea. Not many places do you know.
You can slob on the sofas when it's quiet (you'll have to be early at the weekend to bag one of these), sit properly at the table like your mum taught you or soak up the sun on one of the pavement tables. Very continental!
The staff are real characters too...they love a chat and can be quite cheeky but that just adds to whole relaxed atmosphere of the place.
This is a place I feel very comfortable in even sitting on my own...you can take your book, newspaper, laptop or just sit back and take it all in. Love it.

Better than you might think

Sometimes in Brighton and Hove you find it necessary to only visit the cute little bars that no-one else really knows about because it's 'quirky' but then sometimes you just want a good reliable bar, that's Barneys.
The bad points, well there's only one, the sofa's are knackered inside, you could easily slip right through some of them, other than that I cannot fault the place, it's a great place to either start off a night, or even to spend a whole night chatting and drinking.
The drinks aren't overly expensive and the food is very reasonable and excellent. Try the club sandwich with chips which i think is only £4-95. Breakfasts are great here and there is a fantastic selection.
There are more and more theme nights starting, like live jazz which is good if that's your thing. If you just want somewhere that is friendly, fairly cheap and has an enjoyable atmosphere then you should go here

Another popular haunt for people living in and around Hove... especially during breakfast time at the weekends.
The food is good and varied - I especially like the omelette and also they do a good steak baguette. They do a good selection of teas, coffees and smoothies.
There are a few seats outside (they are directly on the street but this doesn't seem to matter in Hove, it all adds to the charm!). You'll be lucky to get a window seat at the weekend. They do have free Wi-fi if that's your thing.
I had my 30th birthday party here last June. I had an area roped off with a separate bar, and we had our own barstaff - they really looked after us well.
