If you're looking for a good pub in the Hove area for a drink, bite to eat and watch the footie....can I recommend The Sussex.
It's worth a visit just to meet the landlord, Chas, who is quite a character (and loves his brandy!)
The Sussex also has a lovely patio garden, which is a proper sun-trap.
The food is typical pub food, edible but not fine cuisine.
There's always a really nice atmosphere in The Sussex with the regulars always making you feel at home.

Great Value

Slightly unfair as this is the nearest pub to my house, however that said I obviously keep returning for a reason! Excellent value prices on the drinks, extensive 'pub' grub menu with something for all tastes, plus 2 bar areas providing more than enough seats. Shows all televised Premiership matches / key sporting events which for me is a real added bonus. The jewel in the crown is the secluded garden area at the rear which is a real sun trap in the Summer months

Good all-rounder

This is a great local pub frequented by a good bunch of its neighbours. You can stand at the bar and chat to the regulars or tuck yourself round the back at a comfy table if you want some peace and quiet. They show all the major sporting events on TVs at the front of the pub and serve pub grub at very reasonable prices.
There's a pool table and quiz machine if you need entertaining but the best thing about The Sussex is the garden. It's a real sun-trap and makes you feel like you're on holiday in the Med...easy to spend a whole Sunday afternoon there...well so long as the sun is actually out.
