Since I moved to the area I have visited the County Ground on a number occasions.
The biggest & dare I say more exciting games are based around the new concept of 20/20. Games normally start after work and have an excellent atmosphere. The beer usualy flows and music is pumped out between wickets, fours/sixes and innings. Normally finished by 9pm you can then either carry on or wind your merry way home.
If you're lucky enough to have afternoons off then make the effort to get down there as entrance is cheaper and after all you are watching the 3 times Division 1 County Champions!!

I work early shifts... so can often be found at the county ground with a pint in hand on a summer afternoon, watching Sussex play cricket.
It's a real good family day out... especially the Twenty20 or Pro 40 games, which are played under the floodlights. They put up a bouncy castle for the kids, and always have loads of refreshments on offer. Often these games are televised - so they put up a big screen, which always makes for a great atmosphere.
These games in particular are very popular, and the bars do get busy so be prepared to wait a few minutes.

I moved to Brighton having only been to 1 live cricket match....that soon changed. The County ground isn't the biggest but it is a perfectly quaint little place and a great venue for wishing away a few hours watching cricket.
If the sun is shining then there is no better place to be. Sit there with a pint in your hand and watch the cricket, if you don't know anything about it then just pretend. The facilities are good although the bars can get very busy when the ground is full. It can also get a bit cold when the sun moves round, the tip is to move round with it!!
One bit of advice...never have the pork roll from the catering van, repulsive stuff...the only bad point of an otherwise brilliant ground.

Now I'm a big fan of cricket and I feel I need to confess that at the start of this review so you can understand where I'm coming from... Sussex County Cricket club have won the Championship the last two years. They are an excellent club to watch, particularly their star bowler Mushtaq Ahmed (Pakistan - known as Mushy!) who is brilliant. The ground is small compared to other county grounds, they are hemmed in at all sides by houses. Being a small ground does has it's advantages though - it makes for a great atmosphere. If you're new to cricket can I really recommend going to see a twenty20 game. Much shorter than regular cricket, the batsmen are trying to get as many runs as possible in as short a time as possible so they're knocking it all over the place. It's a great spectacle, if ever so slightly cheesy (each of the players comes out to bat to their own song "I am the one and only" by Chesney Hawks seems to be a favourite!?!) Just make sure you book well in advance, the games always sell out.
